A Turning Point?

Could this be a turning point for Hannan Sarkar? I personally like the guy for the character that he has shown over the last few months unlike Al Shahriar.

He is chosen in the Sri Lanka tour for injury to a front line opener Javed Omar, scores a fifty in Sri Lanka, but then fails to establish his place in the one day side for poor performance.

He goes to South Africa and plays another good knock against South Africa in South Africa after getting dropped. From thereon, he plays against West Indies at home and again dropped for poor performance in the one dayers.

He plays a good - looking career best 25, joint top scorer of the match with Sanwar Hossain against a team that Bangladesh should win - Canada, then dropped again during the World Cup.

Then after the major shakeup of the world cup side especially in the opening position after the world cup, he misses the entire South Africa tour of Bangladesh.

Then again he gets a good chance to show what he is capable of and plays wonderfully well against Australia in Australia in the test series, the best test team in the world.

He then plays in the one day series against the same opponent, but with little luck.

He retains his place in the next test side for the Pakistan tour and fails to perform with the bat in the tests, so he again gets the chop in the first couple of games.

Then he again finds that he is in the team and fields well out of encouragement of playing for Bangladesh in the ODIs. And his story does not finish there.

He again finds himself in a similar situation only this time he starts to struggle in the similar condition under lights against a much tougher opposition. He manages to survive for a long time with a bit of luck.

Now here is the turning point. He is running and getting the singles here and there with another player who can run the singles better than the rest of the bunch - Alok Kapali.

He runs a single too many and gets run out, only to find out later before going off the field from the umpires that he was not run out for 35 runs - only 10 runs better than his last career best of 25. The fielder Shoaib Malik had touched the rope while he was throwing the ball to the wicket keeper at the deep.

He scores his maiden half century in One Day Internationals. His career best 61 is also the top score of the match along with Alok Kapali's 61.

Doesn't the whole story sound INTERESTING? If he starts to play well and can gain confidence from this match and be a regular one day opener for Bangladesh, then this little incident could be a turning point for his entire One Day career.
