The domestic season opener, NCL, is scheduled to begin from October 10 this year. The tournament may carry a special significance this year as it will be followed by the home Test series against India late November.
Chattogram, who earned their promotion back to tier 1 last year, may be the team to watch this year. The side may include Test team regulars such as Tamim Iqbal, Mahmudul Hasan Joy, Mominul Haque, Nayeem Hasan, as well as last season's top wicket taker Hasan Murad. The team may also include exciting batting prospects like Parvez Hossain Emon, Shahadat Hossain Dipu, Pinak Ghosh, and Shamim Patwari. Chattogram also have the advantage of having rising home grown coaches in Aftab Ahmed and Nazimuddin.
From this year, BCB will use Duke balls in NCL, providing advantage to seam/swing bowlers like Abu Jayed, Mrittunjoy Chowdhury, Ripon Mondol, etc. As usual, Sylhet is likely to have the best pace quartet in Abu Jayed, Khaled Ahmed, Rejaur Rahman Raja, and Tanzim Sakib, under the guidance of bowling coach Nazmul Hossain and supported by current domestic FC leading wicket taker Enamul Haque Jr.
Veteran Alok Kapali, Rubel Hossain, and Shafiul Islam announced their retirements from FC cricket ahead of the tournament. Tushar Imran, the Bangladeshi batter with highest number of FC runs, announced his retirement from all formats of cricket at the end of last NCL. So he will be missing as well.

You may still see Alok, Rubel, and Shafiul in BPL or DPL. But Tushar retired from all formats of competitive cricket (he was not getting chances in ListA or T20 anyway).
Tamim Iqbal informed media that he will participate in the first two rounds of NCL. However, he then will focus on individual skill training, leading to India series.
Mushfiq will miss first few rounds as he has picked up an injury at gym. He will start his training from Oct 17.
On contrary to other two senior campaigners, Riyad refused to participate at all this NCL. Nannu offered him chance to play for the A-team at Chennai, which he refused as well.
The NCL first half will be quite depleted as the national team is away and the A-team is leaving to play matches against a Tamilnadu state side. Hope to see some new talents coming up in this vacuum.

I was furious at first at mullah's attitude but then again he is retired from test cricket..no point playing FC for him. Also A team tours should be for future talents. Why nannu asked him to be on the A team tour is beyond me..wait not beyond me because nannu is an idiot

Yeah, this is a mystery too. A-team is for players who may get a chance in the national team. Not for a core member who is well-established in the ODI team. BD selectors man, no common sense.
Bowlers dominated NCL day 1. Swing bowler Sumon Khan took a fifer (including wickets of Nasir Hossain and Akbar Ali). Veteran Nabil Samad got a fifer as well.
Thanks to their pacers, defending champion Dhaka Division defeated Rangpur, by an innings, within a day and half. Sumon Khan took a total of 9 wickets in the match. Debutante Musfik Hasan (Rangpur) took a fifer as well, though for a losing cause.
At Chattogram, Hasan Murad got his season's first fifer as well.
Start of the A-team tour has been pushed out to Oct 24. Hope to see A-team players playing for their respective NCL sides in the second round matches, which start from today.
In terms of experience, we have batters that are years (in some cases, decades) ahead of group of pacers that are dominating this NCL. Yet, they have been so hapless so far on good pitches against duke ball!
Even Ashraful, who plays regularly against duke ball in English village leagues, got bowled cheaply by Zia's medium pace!
Poor Mehedi Rana has been banned from playing rest of the NCL, as he complained in an FB status how a selector (without naming the selector) treated him poorly.

Despite having Tamim, Chattogram lost both of their matches so far. Tamim told journalists that he would play only two rounds in NCL, and then would focus on his individual training sessions before India series. His current form doesn't look good. In the last match against Rangpur pacers, he was clean bowled in the first innings, and then caught behind in the second. IMO, he should take the opportunity to play the next round against Dhaka (whose pacers are doing quite well!) on a freshly laid Bogra pitch.
It's amazing how little esteem it shows for this competition that a player would rather train than play in it. Hard to imagine it happening in too many other first class competition.
Thanks for the above heads up about Mushfik Hasan as well. He's coming along nicely. That one that got Tamim was a beauty.
