Default your ODI squad for the Zim series

Mine is:

Playing XI:

1) Tamim
2) Bijoy
3) Kayes/Mominul
4)Shakib
5) Mushy
6) Riyad
7) Nasir
8) Mash
9) Razzak
10) Shafiul/ Rubel
11) Al Amin

Taskin is injured so he is certain to be out. If Kayes plays then Bijoy can bat at 3 and Kayes to open with TIK. If Mominul plays then he should bat at 3 and keep Bijoy and Tik to start the innings.

4 back up players would be:

1) Kayes/ Mominul
2) Taizul/ Arafat Sunny
3) Shabbir
4) Shafiul/ Rubel

Whats yours?

Better to play 3 spinners against Zimbabwe.

Razzak not a bad idea, he has an exceptional record against Zimbabwe. Question is whether management is willing to play 3 SLA's.

We need to adopt a team that will be playing world cup. Zim odi should be a dress rehearsal of WC

Exactly. Hence, I included 3 seamers in my XI.

With arafat, jubair, taijul we dont need lala. As for shabbir this could be a great opportunity for him to show what hes got, maybe a promotion if we get in a good position. jubair got vital experience and proved his worth, same could be for shabbir.

FB are fragile, and our FBs are more fragile. to prepare for World Cup, you don't need to include 3 best possible FBs in all the games in this series, that will make your injury prone FBs "lula" before the world cup. You can still choose 2 FBs in each game in this series and rotate them so you have 4 or 5 FBs fresh and ready and hungry before the World Cup.

What happned to taskin can also happen to other FBS if you are not careful how you use them during the preparation series before WC.

Nasir hasn't done anything to get back in, it will only make him hungrier and working harder to get back to his best if he doesn't play, and competition is a good thing.

Nasir did pretty well in the A team and as we know he's our best finisher. So he should be playing imo. At the same time, as much as I like Shabbir, he hasn't done much to get selected. There are middle order batsmen that have proved themselves more than Shabbir. It'd be a different story if he bowled but he's just a batsman which also hurts his chances compared to somebody like Soumya who is more versatile

So Mominul makes about half of the squad. He is such a good Test player but for some reason looks nervous in ODIs. It would be great if he can cement his spot with some good ODI innings. Middle order would really become strong then.

With WC in mind, I would stick to Tamim-Imrul pair for now. Anamul still have a lot of work to do, if he is to survive in Aus-NZ. For now, I would keep him as one-down.

Time to bring back Nasir. With WC in mind, coach should instruct him to practice his medium pace on regular basis, at least in nets.

Soumya is another one needs to start working with the coaching staff, to prep for WC, as an allrounder option. But, for now, I would keep him on the bench.

Also, I think we should stick to the strategy of choking Zimbabwe with SLAs. So, I would pick both Taijul and Arafat Sunny for the series.

So, my XI would be -

Tamim
Imrul
Anamul
Shakib
Mushfiq
Riyad
Nasir
Mashrafe
Taijul
Arafat
Al Amin

Bench: Rubel, Shafiul, Momin, Soumya

Yes we need Nasir for WC. But my only concern is I am not sure he really gets it why he was dropped. I have feeling he still thinks he was dropped without merit.

Until he understands why he was dropped and what he need to work on, what's the point brining him back? it will be again jai lau shi kodu...

^^Fazal, what you are saying comes down to man-management skill of Hathuri, he needs to get the message across that no one should take their position in the team for granted if they can't deliver. For the same reason, someone like Soumya should be groomed well on the side.

We also have the option to let Momin bat at #4 and push Shak-Mushi-Riayd each one position down.

I would select jubair for odi. He willl be a secret weapon specifically for WC.In Australian bouncy pitch he can be lethal if he has controls n turns. We should nottake someone who might not fit in WC.

Taskin's official fb page said he hoped to be ready for the ODIs. We'll have to see if his recovery is on time. If not maybe he can play the last couple of matches.
