Default Earthquake jolted Bangladesh thrice

Thank God there were no casualties.

Earthquake causes panic in N.India and Bangladesh

"..Shock and aftershock jolted Bangladesh as long-range earthquakes swept through different countries in South Asia thrice on Sunday, causing panic among people.

The first earthquake shook different parts of Bangladesh, including capital Dhaka, with a moderate magnitude measuring 5.6 on Richter Scale, at 1:27pm and lasted 40 seconds.

Its epicenter was 389 kilometers off the Earthquake Observation Center in Chittagong, according to the center sources.

An aftershock occurred at 4:14pm with a magnitude of 3.3, lasting 7 seconds. “The intensity was minor.” The distance of the epicentre was 51 km from Chittagong Earthquake Observation Center, said the Met office in Dhaka...."

Living in Japan for the last few years I could attest that the eartquake intensity is wrongly neasured. If an earhqauke of that intensity occured for 40 seconds most of the buildings of Dhaka would have been collapsed. Some of my friends learn about the eartquake in news though they live in Dhaka. So I think the seismograph is providing wrong assesment.
