C. Typing with Unicode Bangla

If you want to type in Bangla then please install any one of available freeware Bangla unicode based typing interfaces. If you are already familier with Bangla typing using Bijoy or if you can type in English with very high proficiency then you can install Avro Keyboard or Ekushy Uni Joy; both of them provide Bijoy keyboard interface. If you are want use phonetic typing then either Avro or Microsoft IME. This typing method uses normal English keyboard and provides intuitive typing based on phonetics.

BanglaCricket recommends that you use Avro Keyboard. It is the most userfriendly interface out there. Avro has become the standard tool for typing Bangla in Windows.
  • Avro Keyboard from Omicron Lab: Avro is seperate software which provides Bangla typing inteface (both keyboard and phonetic based) to any application that supports unicode input. It can either sit on taskbar or top of window. It supports various keyboard layouts including UniBijoy, National/Jatiya, AvroEasy and Bornona. Along with this, it also supports phonetic typing and typing with your mouse.
Download Avro Keyboard version 4.1.0, install it and then follow this instruction if you need help.

  • Ekushey Uni Joy from Ekushey project by Altruists International: It integrates with Windows text service and does not install any seperate application. It works with any software that supports unicode input. Bangla typing can be invoked by ALT+SHIFT keystore (default).
Download Ekushey Uni Joy and follow instructions here to install it.

  • Microsoft Indic IME: Microsoft Indic IME offers the option of phonetic typing. Using phonetic typing, the user can type the message in Roman using the Standard English keyboard, which is transliterated on-the-fly to Bengali. It works on the logic of phonetics and is most effective when you spell the word the way it is spoken.
Download Microsoft IME and follow this instruction to install it.

  • OR one of the Bangla interfaces from this list provided by Unicode.

  3. Copy USP10.DLL to C:\Windows\System32 folder if you use Windows XP or Windows 2003. If you are using Windows 2000, copy USP10.DLL to C:\WINNT\System32. Click Yes when Windows asks to confirm copying.
