Default Afghanistan tour of Bangladesh, September 2019

BCB announced 35 member preliminary team for one Test and T20I Tri-Series:

Imrul Kayes, Soumya Sarkar, Shakib Al Hasan, Mashrafe Bin Mortaza, Mahmudullah Riyad, Liton Das, Mohammad Mithun, Shadman Islam, Jahirul Islam, Mushfiqur Rahim, Mustafizur Rahman, Rubel Hossain, Mehedi Hasan Miraz, Mominul Haque, Sabbir Rahman, Mosaddek Hossain, Shafiul Islam, Taskin Ahmed, Ariful Haque, Farhad Reza, Abu Jayed, Abu Haider, Taijul Islam, Yasir Ali, Nazmul Hossain, Saif Hasan, Afif Hossain, Nayeem Hasan, Nayeem Shaik, Shahidul Islam, Shafiqul Islam, Yasin Arafat, Mehidy Hasan, Aminul Islam and Ebadot Hossain.

Quote:
“You know Mashrafe was advised to stay away from cricketing activities for 21 days due to a hamstring injury for which he had missed the Sri Lanka tour. He [Mashrafe] is under the national payroll, so we have to look into his fitness. We included Mashrafe as a part of his rehabilitation programme,” said chief selector Minhajul Abedin yesterday.

Mohammad Saifuddin was the only notable omission from the list but it was expected as the all-rounder has been complaining of back pain. The BCB are also considering the possibility of sending the all-rounder abroad to have a better examination of the back issue which has plagued the player for the past nine years.

“Saifuddin may be include later if his rehabilitation starts,” informed Minhajul.

“We called up some fresh faces from the High Performance programme as we are going to play a T20I series and there is also as young leg-spinner [Aminul Islam],” he added.

The camp is set to begin on August 19 and players who were called up are expected to report to the national team strength and conditioning coach Mario Villavarayen. Villavarayen will conduct the conditioning camp for four to five days before the Bangladesh’s new head coach Russell Domingo takes the reigns later this week.

Afghanistan will arrive in Dhaka on August 30. The one-off Test will take place at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chattogram from September 5 while the tri-nation series will start on September 13.

Biplob has been only a part time spinner playing for BKSP, he's mainly a batsman. I know we're desperately looking for a leggie, but Biplob doesn't have much of a credential as a bowler.

Mohammad Naim, Yeasin Arafat, Saif Hassan - A look into Bangladesh's future
Quote:
Mohammad Naim is one of the more promising among the newcomers. An elegent strokeplayer who doesn't hold back, he was the second-highest scorer in the last Dhaka Premier League List-A competition and he impressed for Bangladesh A against Afghanistan A last month, concluding the one-day series with a match-winning 126.

Yeasin Arafat is a six-foot tall pace bowler who has earned his second call-up to a seniors' training camp in as many years. He has the best List-A figures in Bangladesh's domestic history (8 for 40) and is among the few in Bangladesh who is known for getting extra bounce from the slow pitches.

Saif Hassan was the top scorer in the Dhaka Premier League, with 814 runs at 62.61. Many age-group coaches have predicted this youngster to have a bright future and he has so far proved them right. The 20-year old has a strong front foot game and is excellent at leaving the ball.

Aminul Islam is a talent who emerged out of BKSP, the country's top sporting institute. He made 440 runs for them in the Dhaka Premier League, and was picked for Bangladesh A last month. The 19-year old is a batting allrounder who also bowls handy legspin, a style of bowling Bangladesh have been searching for a long time.

Jahurul Islam played the last of his 24 international matches more than six years ago but he has done well recently in domestic cricket. The 32-year old is known as a batsman who has never quite achieved his potential, but in the absence of Tamim, he is among the two openers being seriously considered as a replacement.

In Tamim's absence, would not mind giving Saif a chance to open with Shadman.

As for T20s, it is time to give Afif and Yasir a go.

Stand out performance from left-arm pacer Shafiqul, on a day all his fellow bowlers went for runs: https://www.espncricinfo.com/series/...banglades-2019

জাতীয় দলের ক্রিকেটারদের ফিটনেসে খুশি নন ট্রেনার
Quote:

As per bdcrictime, among national team regulars, only Mushfiq got close to 12 in beep test. Rest of the regulars mostly got 6-7. Mosaddek got the lowest - less than 5.

*Shakib and Sabbir have not joined the camp yet.

I applaud BCB for getting tough on fitness. Look at how tough India is on fitness. They are reaping the results now.

Because of failure in fitness, BCCI did not hesitate at all to turn down/reject any player, big or small. Once Suresh Raina was not included in the team despite being in form because he failed the fitness test. And their Captain is leading from front in this regard. Look at BD or PAK captain - leading by sporting pot bellies (aka bhuries).

Former PAK coach Micky Arthur was very strict on fitness, but despite his repeated emphasis, he failed to improve the fitness of PAK players at his desired level, because the players did not care. Pak players to some extent can compensate their lack of fitness by their superior talent and natural strong built bodies, but at international level, nothing can substitute fitness, and PAK's failure proved that.

Fitness is not everything but it matters at crunch moments. Our sad running between the wickets, getting out after scoring 50s, conceding boundary ball every over, missing catches, losing situational awareness during fielding or batting, not running hard during fielding - everything can be attributed to poor fitness.

After being super duper soft on fitness issue in teh WC, they better learn their lesson.

Mashrafee was unfit and still he played.
Riyad was unfit and still he players.
Saifuddin, the player himself complain about his fitness in one game and still forced to play.
Tamin doesn't looked like very fit to play, he looked lethargic, and still he played.
Mushfiq also played some game with not fully recovered from past game.

These players were not bad in the best of form, but they were not fit to play, and still they played. What do you expect?

It should be no surprise that two senior domestic players from Rajshahi got the top scores in Beep test. Rajshahi players, for years, developed this culture of training during off-season, under the academy Pilot established.

This was one of the reasons I was happy to see Pilot being appointed as the team manager during NZ tour earlier this year, hoping he would instill better work ethics among national teamers. Then, unfortunately, the gambling-addict 'goti-danob' got the role back.

Mosaddek's score is embarrassing and unacceptable. For that alone he should not be considered for the next series. No excuses.

Agree.

From the minnow era, Pilot and Belim were very serious about fitness.

To me Pilot was super talented wicket-keeper and a potentially good teacher. he is intelligent and a good tactician. But I don't think he was a hard working individual as a player. he was kind of indiscipline as a player. Otherwise he could have been increased his player career further.

Belim was a over achiever as a player.

Mushy came and proved to be a better batsman and Pilot was permanently sidelined.

I am having the feeling of losing the test match against Afghanistan.

Anyone else is having the same feeling?
