Default 2011 WC groupings

http://www.cricinfo.com/wc2011/conte...ry/428712.html
Groups for the 2011 World Cup

Group A - Australia, Pakistan, New Zealand, Sri Lanka, Zimbabwe, Canada, Kenya.

Group B - India, South Africa, England, West Indies, Bangladesh, Ireland, Netherlands.

Are we playing all our games at home (including vs. India) ?

Chance to get revenge on Ireland. Hopefully we will snag 2 wins against the 'big 4'. I think we should aim to go to the quarter finals as B3.

looks like a decent group, we should look to win all of them! We can scare India and beat them again, put SA and England on trial by spin but overall play sensible cricket! The team to fear is Ireland :p

btw, do the top four go through to the super 8s? can somebody explain the format please?

not bad, Ireland/West indies would be our foes. I'd rather be in group B then in group A.

best thing is only 1 team used to this condition (ind).. watch when End, RSA, WI will lose to us they will blame the SBNS pitch.. low n inconsistant bounce... as if they never played there ..

yea, i was thinking about the same thing. for a second i forgot that its in BD, the nightmare of NZ/SL and so many other teams :P. if the games are held in MSBNS then we should really not worry about West Indies/Ireland and maybe England

All of their players are well accustomed with turning pitches in South Asia. Please go check their record. They hold their own against Pak, Ind, and ofcourse BD. The only thing that comes to play is the choking affect they have.

So far not a bad group. If we beat WI, Irish, Dutch and English or Springboks we might be in QF. The match against India would be definitely in Indian soil. That would be a great experience to beat them at their home

SInce BD is hosting two of the quarter finals, my guess is the format is as follows:

QFs : A1 vs. B4, A3 vs. B2 and A2 vs. B3, A4 vs. B1

with the SFs designed to be A1 vs. B2 and B1 vs. A2 (barring upsets)

Was this grouping based on rankings? or, based on a desire to keep India-Pak, Aus-Eng on separate groups? Anyway, but from our standpoint, we are in a better group. I would like to find out how many teams from each group move up to the next stage? Four probably.

Having only one another subcontinental team in our group certainly gives us a slight edge.
We should and must beat Ireland and Hollands on our own ground.
We can certainly keep our hopes high against England and West Indies.
SA, we can choke 'em on our day.
India, oh well... we can let 'em go in the first round and take the revenge in the later stage

Saying all that, it would be really dissapointing if we cant make it to QF in our own ground.
All depends how we carry our form just prior to the tournament.

Really tough group for Eng, WI and SA as BD is there. Ireland and Holland has no chance.

Ireland has made the 2nd round in the last WC AND the last T20 WC (something AUS, IND, PAK and BD can not claim) and Netherlands defeated ENG and failed to qualify to the 2nd round for Net RR. I wouldn't dismiss them so easily. I will still be upset if we lose to them though.

I would hope that we can take out WI and ENG with the home field and scare both SA and IND in the process.

None of the teams look so scary at the moment the way AUS used to for most part of the last decade.

Good group.

We have a chance to beat all 3 teams from the top. We will definitely beat Ireland badly and netherlands. Ireland will struggle a lot in spin condition like they did in the previous visit.

playing in Bangladeshi condition is much tougher than playing at SA and WI. Ireland visited BD after 07 worldcup and they humiliated by us by losing 3-0.

I guess its better not to mix 20/20 with ODIs. Any team can win 20/20 against any team but not ODIs.

Ireland lost to us so bady after in 2007/8 in our home condition.
