I forgot about one other bowler...one that lit up the domestic league for one season (or two) and now is nowhere to be found:

WAYESQURUNI PALASH

He did some serious damage with the ball a few years ago, but don't understand what's happened to him. Did he get found out by the batsmen? I don't see him among the top wicket-takers in domestic cricket any more.

Polash was reported for his action and was under training to change his action. That happened last year or so. In fact, that happened to most of the fast bowler finds...I believe it will take Waskuruni few seasons to get back in rythm and play with his new action. The whole cricket development program came to a halt during the last 2.5 years due to the political situaiton of the country.... Hopefully we will revive the Dev Squad/High Performance/Academy/A team/U17 team tournaments etc. At the moment,,, if our national team is on strike for some reason,,, we will also have the same situation as WI,, because we dont really have an A Team or a strong pool of players that are in game/shape.

Nice to know, HereWeGo. Note my fav. player on the top-right corner of this post. Regardless of every single side-factor of Biddyut, always liked his stylish batting, the innings against Pakistan in WC 99 being the peak. That short innings of 39 runs, to me, is one of the most important knocks in BD's cricket history. Hopefully I don't sound biased.

And Asif bhai, I don't think he chickened out - rather, had drug/gang issues from his Narayanganj neighbourhood... or atleast that's what he hear from a friend of mine who knows Biddyut from childhood.

Speaking of players of might have had the credibility of playing for the national team in the mid to late 90s had there been no Athar/Bulbul/Akram/Nannu... how about this list ?

Sajid Hasan
Shipon Chowdhury (not sure of his actual name)
Harunur Rashid Liton (or is he, Rashedul Liton?)
Imran Hamid Partho
Haleem Shah
Zakaria Imtiaz
Salim Shahed
Mustadir Litu
Shahidullah Ibne Shahid Shoikot Plabon (laughed out load everytime Zafarullah Sharafat said his entire name for every delivery)
Anisur Rahman
Sajal Chowdhury
Morshed Ali Khan Sumon

is this the wascoroni ahmed who played for victoria sporting club last season? he played a few matches this year, expensive by the look of the scorecards, i wonder if he's been able to keep his pace after a remodelling of his action.

there was another pace bowler by the name of mohammad salahuddin who i think was also found in a pacer hunt program (after checking some threads it was 2007 the same year as rubel), not sure if he played any matches because he seemed to be putting off cricket for his studies, but he was talked about as a really good prospect.

All these players had a single problem. After getting chance to National Team they started to think "Mui Ki Honure".

Hannan and Talha: still have a future, Talha especially.

Rokon and Opi: monumental waste of amazing hand-eye coordination ... pitiful compulsions!

Shafaq: pitiful waste of monumental size ... lazy!

Wow!!! those name bring back some wonderful memoried when I used to tune the radio to listen to Abahani mohameddan final match or just watch it on BTV....

Among them Salim Shahed is the only one i still see on TV sometimes (courtesy Channel I commentry).....

Anisur rahman was the fastest bangladeshi bowler at one point. If I remember correctly than at one point he even took 7 or 8 wicket on a premier league match for 10-15 runs...

Sumon was a good off spinner and Plabon I believe was a slow-slow medium pacer.

There was another allrounder names Mushfiqur Rahman....he was a poor mans Abdur razzaq(pakistan) type player. wonder where he is now....Last I think I saw him was during Asia Cup....

Anyways thanks for bringing up those names....reminds me of my childhood...

So Shafaq Al Zabir is no longer in contention for domestic cricket, let alone the national side?

LOL, reminds me of the days when Abahani vs Mohammedan games were as competitive as the Ashes and we would have to endure hours of Khodabox and Sharafat on the radio.

The way Shahadat is bowling thunderbolts at 75mph, I won't be surprised if Talha gets a callback, also he will have more motivation to perform. But we need to have a good fast bowling coach..

Also, anyone knows about Tamim's brother Nafis Iqbal? is he performing at domestic atall?

haha.. not an advertisement for missing people, but just revisit some of those golden days of premier league in the 90s i.e the Abahani/Mohammedan matches...

and thanks for clarifying the names... yes, i did mean Sajjad Monsur Shipon and Saikat's and Plabon's names got mixed up because of their first names. but u did get it right - they were who I meant.

Oh the memories! Those were my primary school days... and what would we not do to catch the radio commentary of those matches! man...

BTW HereWeGo, Sumon was a seamer, used to play for Mohammedan. And Plabon was Abahani's main spin option for a while. Saikot was a good spinner too, as wiseshah pointed out. And I remember making a poster for Anisur saying "Good Luck Anis" to a BD vs India-A game... he was a very popular pacer at that time!

Morshed Ali Khan Sumon was Left Arm Pace Bowler.

Plabon’s full name is Shariful Haq Plabon and he was a Leg Spinner. Cricinfo has written him Off spinner which is wrong. He played the single ODI against India on the 1998 Independence Cup between India, Pakistan and Bangladesh.

I also thought Plabon is a offie. he played long time for Biman.

I have watched that match. Hasibul Hossain (Shanto) missed a catch of Hrishikesh Kanitkar on his own ball. It was very exciting because Once upon a time I was dreaming Bangladesh to win. If Shanto could take the catch may be...........

Anyway, it doesn't matter. It is the story of 1998.

He's retired from cricket quite a while ago and is looking after his business and family. He used to live in our flat building 3rd floor.... would coach us chhele peles on the roof of our building when I was in Class 8. He also got me free Special Enclosure tickets to 3 games of the Wills Mini World Cup '98... I traded those for Eastern and Western Gallery and watched SA v Eng and Pak v WI with my friends!

Morshed Ali Khan Shumon played for the national team too. Did a decent job on debut - got the wicket of Ganguly, c&b. Before the game he was telling his captain (I think it was Bulbul back then) that he would be happy to get two wickets on debut (and he did). Bulbul retorted, "Keno, amra to tor kach theke 5 wicket asha korchi".

Didn't last long though, as expected.
