Default Magic Moments(BD Conquers India and Ash’s MOM Speech) Relive – Part 1

Hello Buddies!

We have been through an extended period of No Wins so far Cricket is concerned barring the wins against Ireland which is of academic interest to us. So it would be nice for us to relive some great performances of our Cricket team in not too distance past which put our country strongly on the International cricket map.

I will not throw every thing at once, just go step by step and for that reason I have named the first one MAGIC MOMMENTS RELIVE - Part1.

Depending on response and demand of our valuable readers I will have additional parts added in the future.

It will also motivate us to feel that our performance was no fluke as we have done it twice in the last World Cup One day in South Africa and that we are a capable cricketing nation and sooner or later we will come back strongly.

These are two Video Highlights.

First one is our Convincing Win against India which ultimately knocked them out of the tournament and broke the heart of millions of Indian Cricket fans.

Here is the link :

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MUcbR5bZ5nY.

More importantly four new stars were born : Tammim, Rahim, Saqib and Razzaq.

Tammim’s was a la Viv Richards style knock. After his brutal attack of all the Indian bowlers, Dravid was seen scratching his head and even commentators noticed that he was running short of ideas.

Then came the sheet anchor innings of Mushfiq. He shepherded the innings to remain unbeaten on 56 and helped us to win a memorable match. Saqib also contributed with a well paced 53.

Mashrafee performed superbly when it mattered most and what a way he delivered with figures of 4 for 38. He was ably supported by Razzaq and Rafiq who took three wickets apiece.

I vividly remember all commentators including Ian Bishop John Wright, David Lloyd, Ranjit Fernando repeatedly mentioning two young teenagers Tammim and Rahim taking the might of India and blunting their attack.

On this day India was outplayed in all departments: Batting, Bowling and Fielding.

We have hitherto not seen all our departments performing outstandingly at the same time.

It was Bangladesh Cricket at its sublime best.

The body language, attitude, commitment said it all – We were bent on going for a kill.

The other thing I have included is Ashraful’s Man of the Man Speech after Bangladesh’s historic win against South Africa.

Here is the link :

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IFUr1o7MyhY.

A lot of our fans are critical of Ashraful’s English speaking ability which is understandable. But we must realize English is not our mother tongue and he may not have studied in English medium school. However I must say in this case Ashraful was not that bad as he is considered to be. His English speaking was nothing spectacular. But looked much improved and his interpretation of his game plan to Sivramkrishnan was spot on. I hope Siddons will take this aspect of Ashraful and advice as appropriate. Ashraful himself can hire a good Instructor from British Council and a two month Intensive course on Pronunciation of Conversational English will do him a lot good .

I can say with assurance his English is better than Inzammam who has also improved.

I hope readers will enjoy both the video highlights.

Cheers to Everyone !

Personally, I feel very loserish trying to cherish only a handful good moments simply because there's nothing else to cherish.

Nice effort.

But very well said Kabir.
Getting tired of relieving glorious moments of the past.
We need some substantial moments of present.

its just so sad that we need to look back at the past to feel good about ourselves.. but this all just shows.. we're not that bad a team.. its just that whatever they are doing now is not correct.. they need to change all this.. i think the only one who needs to actually watch these videos is our tigers.. they need to remember their past..

I think yes. I think you are missing the point that there is no point looking for a point where there is none to look for.

About your signature?

I'm afraid, yes.
Its about time, let go man.
I know its hard to say goodbye to that special one, but there's time when you just gotta do it.

It wont be easy.
there will be time when you'd be reminded of it, but you need to be strong.
Look out for a better day tomorrow.

This might help you.

I dont think that Ash has time to study English. I feel that he is communicating with the coach in English and only by speaking it more, will he improve.

IMO, he has improved and he does have the guts to speak in English, he understands the language, but when he speaks he cannot express himself coherently.

Hello Kabir,

MOM was meant Man of the Match.

Hope this helps to comprehend what was implied.

Cheers !

Default RATIONALE FOR CHOOSING MOM for Man Of The match

Hello Fazal,

Both MOM and MOTM are technically correct

It depends on how you perceive.

Let me give you a typical example

BCCI - What does it stand for?

Board of Control for Cricket in India – Right?

But for simplicity’s sake the of, for, in are not included in the abbreviation. Why ?

Because if of, for, in was included in the abbreviation it would take the shape
of BOCFCII which looks pretty complex than BCC1. Doesn’t it ?

Same idea. MOM definitely looks better and simpler than MOTM although both are technically Okay.

Hopes this helps you to understand my perception and rationale of choosing MOM instead of MOTM for Man Of The Match.

Thanks for the probe.

Cheers !

ehteshamul bhai,

i am becoming a quick fan of yours. your way of speaking has a zen master like ring to it which i find very soothing! if you ever choose to side with the darkside and become a cult-leader i swear i will join and wouldn't hesitate to drink very very bad kool-aid!

ashraful can always improve on his english, no doubt, but i think yes, we are very often harsh on him about how he speaks. i rather have a mute ashraful who speaks through sign langauge and brings eid more often!

Hello Bujhee Kom Bhaiyya,

Thanks for your response and kind words and appreciation that you have been showering me on different posts of mine and which I do not fully deserve.

My apologies to you for not replying earlier.

A captain besides leading the team by Example, Good thinking and Motivation has to be a very good communicator to get the best out from his Team members, Coach, Selectors, BCB High Officials and also with the Media at home and when touring abroad.

His communication with most important first contact which is obviously the coach has to be worry free and both of them have to be in the same phase.

This can be efffective when the Captain’s grasp and grip of English is good.

When touring abroad a Captain has to meet and answer Press and TV media of the host country and participate in Match presentations for both One Day and Test. If he cannot maintain a minimum standard it will reflect not only poorly on the Captain, but also on the nation as a whole.

Ash has to find a way to enhance his English fluency that will require some lessons on Intermediate English followed by Lessons on specifics like Conversational English. There is no dearth of Private English Instructors. Even If he takes lessons twice a week and finishes it in 2 months it will stand him in good stead in the future.

I am a firm believer of PMA – Positive Mental Attitude. Having said that I am open to Appreciation, Criticism, Sarcasm and any other Ism that exists but beyond my Knowledge. I take these sportingly and next moment put it behind and Move On.

Bottom line is that whether one appreciates, criticizes, indulges in sarcasm (most cases unconsciously) each and every one of the reader is a buddy for me.

Cheers!

Right.

We won the match. Would his better English bring us an early victory? or a better victory?

His English didn't become a barrier to victory. Just a feel good factor for the fans.
