Default One plant is fair but not enough.

Other power plants in BD like Ashuganj are being already depreciated, at the end of their life cycle.
We need multiple Nuke power plants immediately. We have more than 6 billions US in reserve.
The benefit to deal with Russia is they do not want cash right the way, they can wait for the money that we can provide later, specially from our emerging ship building industry.

No sufficient electricity, no development in BD.
Thanks for the deal. You planned your work, 'now' is the time to work the plan.

First, i got to thank the govt atleast getting the work rolling. Its better than talking big on power developemt.

But more importantly, i see this as just a eye wash at this moment. Faced with a massive power shortage, the govt is just keeping the media busy for a while and us happy and hoping for a better day.

I highly doubt this deal would go the Russians.

Deals of this magnitude, the Chinese comes to my mind first. They do have a very strong hold over any business opportunities in Bangladesh.

chinese and quality don't go together. in a field like nuclear power you need to be extra careful. do you know about the satellite nigeria bought from china at huge cost that went, ahem, missing ?

russians are a much safer bet. I know you'll bring up chernobyl, but it is because of that incident that russian reactors are quite safe now. if not them then the french but western designs are costly.

Not to mention the coal mine disasters China seem to face on a yearly basis! Stay clear off China with anything nuclear. French provide quality products as well.

Remember Raojan. One Chinese Power Plant is enough for the country. It is operating is a news.
BTW as much as for renewable energy with the exception of hydropower and wind none is good enough for producing on commercial basis AFAIK.

Haha... no mate..i was not gonna mention Chernobyl, infact, i'm quite happy with the Russians in this sector. I was merely expressing my concern, relating the international politics that a country like ours have to face in making every single decision.

Default Problem is constant supply of centrifuses.

After the construction of the Tiger Nuke Plant(s), our challenge will be getting constant supply of centrifuses, if IAEA does not allow us to build centrifuses at home.
Only Russia is reliable in supplying centrifuses for nuclear power plants without any deadly strings, reported by Iran on its Bushaer Nuclear power plant.
I will not go with China because I have less faith in Chinese advanced technology, their satelites did not come back home so many times.
Other Western countries are pretty expensive and too diplomatic.

True but some country’s satellites haven’t even reached there, let alone returning.

I don't think that they will supply us centrifuse & allow us to enrich uranium here. That has been the hitch with Iran. The enrichment shall be done in Russia and they will supply us fuel grade enriched uranium to use in the power plant.

Sorry, I may be wrong, that's just my uderstanding as a layman.

Me as well.

A nuclear power plant needs low grade centrifuses even to generate electricity.

We are talking about centrifuses for electricity generation as per IAEA or IPT. Russia can give us the extensive right to build and develop centrifuses in Bangladesh which will reduce our future dependency on Russia, what we need to do then is buy uranium.

As regards uranium, only the specific isotope U-235 will work for nuclear bomb application, for developing centrifuses to generate electricity we need isotope U-238. Over 99% of the uranium in the ground is U-238, and only a tiny portion of the metal is the isotope U-235. We have to refine the uranium to separate the tiny bit of that lighter isotope out to make a nuclear weapon. this enrichment process takes a lot of equipment and energy to process the material and concentrate the preferred isotope sufficiently that we do not have and IPT does not allow that either.

So we are happy with a simple nuclear power plant for electricity with cetrifuses developed here, in our own soil to reduce cost.

2000MW added to the national Grid would do wonders for the economic development of our country. Please get the work rolling as fast as possible. Bangladesh needs this......

Thank God the Left front in our country is not strong. Look at how much the Left made the Congress in India struggle on their N-deal with the USA. Congress nearly lost power due to this deal. Since there are no barrings like that in out country the Government should get this done as soon as possible.

The source does not work aanymore.

Any way, two NPP units of 1200 MW electricty each is currently under construction in Rooppur, Pabna. Commissioning of first unit is expected in 2022-23

Besides, site seletion process is undergoing at southern part of BD. About 10 sites were initially shortlisted, which ia now down to 3. pre Feasibility Studies are currently on for this sites to select the most suitable one.
