Happy Riyad Century Day!
Celebration time: Happy Riyad Century Day!
On this day in 2010, Mullah scored his first only test century, propelling him to fab5 status, a permanent spot in the team for years to come, and ensured Bangladesh remained one of the top 20 test teams in the entire planet. #Legend #TestSpecialist #HallofFamer #1tonKing
So celebrate with loved ones and friends, for this day comes but once a year. #blessed #champion #Riyad4Prez #dulabhai
Who needs test wins? All that matters is that our seniors can play with each other forever and ever. #bhaibhai #dontBreakupTheBand
Fun fact: When asked by a journalist if she knew Sachin, Maria Sharapova said “I don’t know Sachin …I only know Mahmadullah Riyad.” #Riyad>Sachin #PartyLikeIts2010 #OCaptainMyCaptain

What gave you that idea? I'm merely celebrating his accomplishment (singular).

Is this a new trend in BC? Everybody picks a different senior cricketer to bash? Roey should file copyright infringement

What in the world are you talking about? This is a celebration thread. What, you think a specialist batsman scoring 1 century after a decade of international cricket isn't worthy of celebration? Get outta here.

It's true, can't deny it. But it wasnt as big as the one I got in 2010 after watching Mullah become 1TonKing. What an event! I remember it like it was yesterday...and so do the selectors evidently.

“Unbelievable” - AAK.
To think he has only one test ton in 8years. Where, he played on some of the flattest of tracks ever as well, and he couldn’t manage another ton of two at test.
Simply, not good enough to be anywhere near the test squad let alone starting XI.
He doesnt even bowl man. Why not give Nafeez, Tushar a chance opening the bat or at Mullahs position!

The fact that Riad plays in our test side ahead of talented youngsters or seniors like Anamul, Naeem, Nurul, Mosaddek, Nafees tells you the seniority culture in Bangladesh

I remember this 100. there is a story behind this 100..let me take everyone down to memory lane.
just before this test match, BD played India. Mahmudullah scored 96* in the 1st innings. he ran out of partners. when rubel was out as the 10th wicket with mullah stranded on 96*, Mullah looked devastated. He played really well and I felt sorry for the guy. he really deserved the maiden ton here.
I was also thinking will this guy bounce back from this? since at that time BD team was full of weak heart players. 2010 was the year of tamim and Shakib was not far behind. Tamim won the 2010 wisden test player of the year and shakib won it in 2009. We here at the forum used to call our team the TamSha. So other than these two our team was noting. nobody had any balls.
so coming back at mullah I was thinking will this guy bounce back? He did bounce back. In the next test match. Scored a brilliant 100 and batted beautifully with shakib in NZ conditions. A playing condition where most of sub con players suck.
I was astonished my Mullah's resilience. I thought at that time that may be after TamSha we finally got a player with fighting mentality. Oh how wrong I was

We have very high standards. You have to have scored a ton this past decade. Tushar never did and Nafeez's 138 was in 2006. 4 years too late homie. Plus neither of these bums could marry the sister of the longest serving captain.

You guys, why so glum? It's a celebration thread for one of the pillars of Bangladesh cricket (as Isam would say and write).
This guys gets it:

If he has no fighting mentality then how come he is still around playing all 3 formats also captaining ?

An excellent question Simon! How is he still around playing all 3 formats? How....hmmm...hmm......
...what could it be......hmmm........
I can only deduce that he's the greatest cricketer the subcontinent has ever seen. I see no other explanation whatsoever.

thats because he plays for a team which--
1. lets you continue playing by doing just enough
2. if you do well in one format you are guarantied selected for the other two, this giving him 3 chances to do that just enough

Alas Riyad Century Day is over.
I hope you guys enjoyed the auspicious day with lots of good food, presents, and time with loved ones.
But don't be sad, we are now only 364 days away from another Riyad Century Day. And as long as BCB keeps giving our Mullah chance after chance after chance, we will continue to enjoy Riyad Century Days for many, many years to come.
