Thing with liton is he looks good, performs domestically, coaches tend to like him and I’ve noticed other cricket fans earmark him as a talent, so the question is how many opportunities do we give him? Can’t forget despite inconsistency he has performed at this level and in the last match he might’ve thrown his starts away but for lack of a better word played two solid innings where he also looked good.

Of course we need him to rectify his consistency but does that mean we dump him now? I’d like saif and naim to have more time and development if possible before coming into test cricket, I suppose we could give anamul another chance or bring yasir in. Mosaddek deserves chances but I’d like to see liton get another 5 matches before dumping him. 5 more matches then reasses imo. I’d give riyads spot to mosaddek.

I think giving captaincy to mominul was probably the wrong move, he has been slumping, certainly compared to his start of career, it was to be expected but he does need to pick it up soon or his position in the team or at very least captaincy will have to be in question.

Shoriful I like, good line and length, solid pace, decent pace, gets just enough movement. All he needs to do is what he has been doing, maybe get a little more consistent with line and length and accuracy, continue to be patient and he will be better than the current test pacers.

If fizz can find a little bit of decency then him and shoriful accompanied by maybe ebadat, I think that will be an ok enough test attack, nothing special but not horrible, serviceable.

i met shane watson the other day. I asked him about BPL, Mohammad Naim and Dhaka pitches.

He said Naim is a skillful batsmen. He said Dhaka pitches are poor.

Rumor is that Domingo wants to get rid off all the non-performing seniors and bring in more fresh faces.

Riyad is the first one in the chopping block. Domingo has already advised Riyad during the Pak tour to retire from Test cricket.

Good idea. But Mithun is even more useless than Riyad. I would give Mominul this year...10 Tests. If he can't hit at least one century in 10 innings in PAK or SL, he should just be a home specialist. I have faith in his abilities, but its now time he delivers.

If Liton cannot do anything big in the 2nd PAK test...its time for Nurul.

Seamers need this year as well. Hope they bring Shoriful into the Test side. Jayed, Ebadat, Shoriful, Khaled will make a decent Test attack.

Yeah, I would give Saif Hasan a long run. We should go with 4 Pacers and 1 Spin on away matches.

It's prolly his attitude more than his form that got him axed from the Test team. Mackenzie pointed out that some players are just happy to be selected, don't have much a hunger for wins. I am pretty sure Riyad is one of such players he was talking about. If Shakib had his way, Riyad would be benched during WC for this attitude as well. I expect Domingo to phase out Riyad from all formats soon enough.

I hope not. The guy is smart, he has told the media clearly after the BCB practice match that - 1) he doesn't enjoy bowling at home, 2) he doesn't want to push his body to bowl long spells when he doesn't feel ready.

If anything, I hope to see him do well in DPL, and start grabbing LOI opportunities from Ireland tour.

Domingo, unfortunately, won't be able to nail down the Test combination for the time being. The Zimbabwe Test does not really give us a proper assessment of the players. After the LOI matches, they will be busy with DPL. Then they will go to Pakistan, play an ODI, rest for a day, and then play a Test match. He does not have opportunities even to have prolonged net sessions with them. If I were him, I would mostly focus on LOIs for now.

After a successful campaign against Zimbabwe it is now clear that we need Mushfiqur for all the rest of the test matches this year. From reaction of Vettori it is very clear that he will back for Mohammad Naim overseas. For a small duration, Ottis is able to earn attention too. Both Rahi and Ebadat had a much better line compared to Rubel in last match. I think Mominul need to go through all his overseas clips and compare with home clips to figure out what he needs to do differently to make some runs outside the country. Overall the picture is bleak. Taijul will not be effective in Karachi, we know. We need a quality spinner, preferably a leggie to at least make a draw and remove that zero in the points table. Also, beside Rahi we need an impact bowler for opening. Does Ottis have enough time to work with Hasan Mahmud?

Domingo should ask BCB to pull the Test team out of DPL, to prep them for Karachi Test. They should go to Bogra or Rajshahi to practice on grassy-bouncy pitches (like how U/19 prepared for SA). Practice against Likhon, Biplob, Rishad, etc there.

But I don't think clubs will let that happen, or players will be willing to let go off DPL money.

U/19 players, such as Hridoy, Tanzid, Shoriful, etc had to sacrifice lucrative BPL contracts, to stay on their mission for U/19, and that's what brought them success.

DPL bosses would sacrifice the World Cup for their clubs if they could. No way they will let our players skip DPL to practice for Karachi Test.

I hope that the confidence boost alone will yield an improved showing. But lets be realistic. Flying in 1 day before the match most teams will struggle. That too not a direct 2 hour flight...they are flying via Dubai or Doha...meaning its like a 8-10 hour journey.

Please not via Dubai, Doha is OK but most of middle east is under Corona watch. I hear some infected in Pak, hope it is nowhere near Karachi.

Update: Corona in Qatar too, I do not think Doha is a safe transit anymore.

On topic: If anybody following test championship will notice how New Zealand utilizing Jamieson. If you go back in history of test cricket you will always find a surprise player for a series for the winning team in most cases which is at home condition. It seems it is a strategy followed by most cricket boards to include 1 or 2 players. Keeping upcoming series in mind they keep preparing those surprise inclusions for months or years. We also have seen such sudden choices which brought us a lot of success. In spin department, we had Miraz. As allrounder Gazi and Abul. In pace we had Fizz (ODI). In WC it was Saifuddin. Unfortunately we could not find similar preparation in any of post-WC series. In last test M Naim actually surprised us as well Rahi has improved a lot with help of Ottis.

I think in foreign conditions Asia or Outside Asia, it requires batsmen to take extra responsibility. All tests drawn as touring team from Saint Lucia to Colombo, if you look at the scorecards you will know we could put up a fight only when there was long partnerships, one or more tons and everybody chipped in.

Definitely umpiring robbed a lot of our achievements but nowadays use of reviews have reduced that proximity.

I missed to mention Zubair Likhon, the surprise Leggie. Unfortunately we could not produce another like him.
