Default Heath Streak appointed as new national bowling coach

Per PA, Heath Streak is our new bowling coach. A good decision IMHO.

Welcome to Bangladesh coach . Please remember our players only understand "HEAT" and "STICK" . Use these.

Chaminda Vaas would have been a better choice. Heath Streak has retired quite sometime ago and will be out of touch. Vaas only retired recently and would have got along more with Hathura

Good new regardless

Chaminda Vaas was unrealistic. He is currently involved in a very important project. Doubt he would stab Sri Lanka in the back even for money.

Heath Streak would do a good job. Maybe not a technical expert like Vaas, but a big hearted person who will instill work ethic, determination. Vitori, Jarvis, Masakadza, Chatara, Meth all improved tremendously under him.

And i rate Heath Streak as a head coach material. So just saying, if Chandika Hathurusingha ever wants to move on, Streak would be a terrific person to take over.

Also, he was one of the best captains Zimbabwe ever had. Plus he could bat too. However, I think it won't be a long-term hiring. I am hearing it's until the WC. Wish he would agree to sign on for a 2 year deal though. Good hire though if it is confirmed by BCB later.

I actually like Streak a lot. It's a great hire IMO. Zimbabwe's pace attack has been the 5th best in average and 6th in SR since 2011 in Tests, which is very good for a team like Zimbabwe. He had a big role in the improvement of Zimbabwe's fast bowling. I really believe that he could make improvement in our pace bowling and the fact that he played and worked for a weaker team also helps.

Just been confirmed by Cricinfo on their twitter page. According to Isam, it's a two year deal and he will be working with pacers across different teams (Nats, Academy etc.)

DHAKA, Monday, 26 May 2014
Media Release

Heath Streak appointed Specialist Bowling Coach

Former Zimbabwe Test captain Heath Streak has been appointed Specialist Bowling Coach of the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB). Streak, 40, is one of Zimbabwe’s most acclaimed cricketers and had also performed the role of bowling coach of the national team after his retirement. He is Zimbabwe’s all-time leading all-rounder with 4933 runs and 455 wickets in international cricket.

Announcing the appointment of the specialist bowling coach BCB’s media committee chairman Jalal Yunus said: “Heath Streak’s experience and record speaks for him. He has played 65 Tests matches and 189 ODIs and as a coach he has worked with some top bowling coaches in the international arena. He has told us that coaching was his passion and we really appreciate that kind of desire.”

Yunus also informed that Streak has agreed a two-year term with the BCB during which he will commit 450 days based on the schedule of the Bangladesh team. He will primarily work with the national side and is expected in Dhaka in the first week of June.

Streak, who is currently in Bulawayo, said he was relishing the prospect of working with the Bangladesh team: “ I look forward to the challenge of working with the Tigers and thank BCB for the opportunity.

‘It is exciting for me to be back into the International coaching arena again. It is my passion to coach at an elite level and I hope I can bring my experience as a former player and coach to the Bangladeshi bowlers.

‘I look forward to teaming up with the new coaching staff and mapping the future for this exciting team.”

Don't think he is such a bad choice as coach. Might be able to install disciplined into our quickies.

But even if we did bring the most wanted bowling coach our bowlers are not really threatening.

Its a good choice, but all waiting to see how much he can change and make the difference. Also what is our player capable of. We are really slow learner and not hard worker.

that is a good news I think, hope under him our boys at least learn how to do the basics right, like improve consistency on better line & length bowling, yorkers etc.

Great pick. Great accurate swinging bowler! Good leader and captain and a more than handy grinding lower order bat. Vaas was a dream but to someone of Streaks quailtybin out ranks is reealy great news. Just again..bcb and the players who will have both these 2 coaches rreconsider they're commitments.

This is a great appointment IMO, Zimbabwe make great coaches as evident by the support-staffs of some of the top international teams. The current head coach of India, the previous head coach of England, the new batting coach of Pakistan etc. are all Zimbabweans; goes to show BCB might just have made the right decision this time. So, congrats to HS and wish him all the best on his new endeavor.

I am yet to see his "butterfly bowling" from our bowlers.

One one hand I am happy, on the other hand I feel sorry for him.

I fear that he will be the next scapegoat for failing to meet unrealistic expectation by fans, reporters and BCB.

It is one step forward to solve our problem with FBs, but its not the only step that need to be taken to solve our problem with FBs in general.
