PCL 2010, Sharjah, UAE
2nd PCL in Sharjah
The 2nd Port City League (PCL) Twenty20 Cricket will be held in the United Arab Emirate city of Sharjah, in March next year with satellite television ATN Bangla telecasting all matches live from the venue, said officials yesterday.
The announcement came after a contract signing ceremony between the PCL authority and ATN Bangla at the Samaraii Convention Centre yesterday evening.
Explaining the reason behind shifting the venue of the PCL from Chittagong to Sharjah, the speakers said all the major cricket grounds of the country would be busy for the domestic cricket as well as remain under renovation ahead of the 2011 ICC World Cup at home.
PCL Chairman AJM Nasiruddin and ATN Bangla Chairman Dr Mahfuzur Rahman signed the deal on behalf of their respective organisations. ATN Bangla will provide Tk one crore to the PCL authority for the telecast right.
The port city of Chittagong held the first ever Twenty20 Cricket League early this year much like with popular Indian Premier League (IPL) as stars players were put in auction with the participation of eight teams.
ATN Bangla telecasted the opening ceremony, semifinals and the final match of the inaugural PCL matches live from Chittagong.
BCB Media Committee chairman Muhammad Jalal Yunus, BCB director and PCL co-ordinator Sirajuddin Mohammad Alamgir, former national selectors Faruk Ahmed and Ahthar Ali Khan were among other presents.

Would Sharjah serve as a good crowd-puller for a tournament of such miniscule magnitude?

I do not think Sharjah will pull much spectators.
But the business growth for the advertisers in ATN Bangla would be huge.
Its T20, due to be so close to home I am sure CTG would become complete traffic free during most of the matches as time difference won't hamper watching them after work.

Wow ! Great news. I can just smell the "Match-Fixing" already ! Our "traitors" will definitely be in the foray. So, yes, the good-old days might just be coming back to the desert. Just Make Wasim Akram the Event co-ordinator and allow some foreign players from England, India, South Africa and Pakistan to participate.....

if there are not many sponsor from Sarjah (or from abroad) I don't see any point of organising this tournament in Sarjah. Do the teams have enough strength to have the players at Sarjah for the whole tournament? I also think organisers have to run a good betting chain to earn enough from the tournament in Sarjah!

Right, sounds really interesting. Though the obvious cons are not being visible to me straight away, still I think it should be a good step forward for our sport. Considering it's T20, it surely has some possiblity of pulling local crowd. Let's see how far it goes. And hopefully ATN Bangla in UK shows it too (considering the delayed programs policy here that gets observed most of the time).

Might be a good time to buy a PCL franchise.

Budget for the tourney is TK 12 crore.
Prize money:
$100K for Champions
$30K for Runners-up
$1K for Man of the Tournament
$500 for Man of the Match
Organizers will arrange travel and accommodation for teams. They will bear cost for 14 players and 4 officials per team.
8 teams from last edition will be invited. If some teams can't participate, new teams will be auctioned.
Each team will have to have 4 foreign players. Foreign recruits will have to have experience playing for their national team, A-team, or U/19 team.
The auction for players will take place in Bangladesh.

I can easily see other international teams interest just before the WCT20 in Windies.
Sharjah is crying for cricket ever since it was deserted because of match fixing.

So you absolutely must have four foreign players in your team, each having played for his respective national, A and/or U-19 team. Very interesting. I think I'm excited.

Mahfuzur Rahman loves middle east.
He is one of those rich men who will do everything(by money) to earn popularity.
But we also need some people like him.

I heard the news before.
I just hope all the games will be recognized by ICC and count them as T20s.
