Default The Cricket Cast

Didn't want to hijack Roey's thread, and I think maybe BC should open a seperate sub-forum for member podcasts. This is my first crack at it and I'm keen on hearing feedback from whoever. Hope you guys like it.

Here's the 2nd episode on youtube for those interested

Thanks bro. But you have met me in person, so you knew what my voice sounds like.

I was telling Roey on the other thread what mic I use. Mics make a big difference and are worth the money IMO.

That is a radio voice! Really good stuff. Guests would make it even better of course.

We need the right software since we are all remote. Most podcasters have actual guests in the studio, which has the right set up and everything. In our case, the software is more important since we won't be meeting in one location.

your voice sounds heavier than in person here.

thing is we do collaborate and do on skype. roey records it with some app and the quality of the participants (me and rinat) deteriorates on that.

keep it up! thanks for driving us out of business

I'm using garageband basically. Took me a couple hours to figure out, but it works really well. I tried to make a youtube vid like yours with a still image, but I couldn't figure out how to use iMovie. So I dowloaded this other software for video editing. It made the sound quality sound even better than what you just heard, but for some reason it had my unedited podcast clip (with keyboard clicking noises, etc). So I don't have anything on youtube as of now.

What would be good for you since you have guests often is to find someone to get the Skype audio fed directly into your audio software. There has to be a very easy way to do that.

The alternative option is to maybe use good quality speakers (?).

I use Audacity. But that's the editing software. I am talking about the actual software that records the voice. Removing clicks, background noises, clipped voices, Audacity does a great job. Unfortunately, echo is one of the hardest things to fix post recording. You need a really good software upfront that records all voices equally well.

I am not sure what you mean by having the skype audio fed directly into the audio software. I though that is what the Skype Recorder App did. We are currently looking for a better app, but the Free Skype Recorder is the best one we found so far. And honestly, it does fine with two people. Listen to the 1st and 2nd podcasts. Only when a third person joins, things start to get a bit echoey except the voice from the host pc.

Question of speakers doesn't come into it, as we all use headphones. Using speakers will create more echo, not less.

In any case, congratz again on starting this venture. I just listened to the whole thing. It pumps me up seeing people talk about Bd cricket. Let's give Bd cricket an edge media wise! The team can be boring and unimaginative, doesn't mean we have to be. We will collab soon.

Yeah there was only a echo on one of your episodes. The other's were good and sounded great. Its always easier to manage just one speaker (yourself) vs having a guest I guess. I'm not even sure how it works with a guest.

I looked into audacity but couldn't figure out how it worked, lol. So I went back to garageband (which I also had no clue about as I'd never used it before this week) and fortunately I was able to figure it out. Garageband is easy to figure out for novices, so I like it.

Looking forward to collabing. Yeah I feel you on the BD cricket thing. I have really gotten into social media the past few years particularily youtube. Lots of creative content out there. I just wish it was there when I was a kid, but you're never to old to start a podcast.

Great job Al. I thought I was in semi retirement as a cricket fan. You guys are making it hard, first Roey & Co and now you. I like your take on many things including what can be done to address Mushy's mental block. James Harden was recently asked how he plans to beat the Warriors next year. His response was, when he practices he tries to simulate game 6 scenarios over and over again. He thinks it'll play a big role in helping his team get over the hump next time. Of course he was referencing game 6 of the western conference finals where his team was up 17 points only to lose the game eventually and then again get beaten in game 7.

Great Job.
On a different note. Many years ago you or TE may be used to share some kind of team performance number based on some formula. Which was great when compared after every series. I was fan of it. Wish that was still on.

Oh yeah that was me I think. WEIR I called it, lol. That was my first real foray into analytics. But that formula is essentially just **** for numbers, lol. It was basically batting avg-strike rate combo and bowling avg-econ for bowlers.

I have devised a different formula which I think is even better, although I haven't updated it in many months.

I eventually want to transition to video podcasts where I can more reasonably start doing that kind of stats based stuff. But that is way to ambitious for me at the moment.

I'm working on getting onto youtube, but stupid me can't figure out how to make a video without using windows movie maker. I'll try on my PC to get both episodes up today since I already created a youtube channel.

I'll update the thread and post all links in the OP.

Great one again Al Furqan. I was just telling Mufi and Rinat yesterday, that listening to this makes me hungry and wanting to get back on the mic asap. So we will do another one this Tue.

Some advice: It will be great if you have a passionate off the cuff guest to even out your cool calm Sam Harris type persona. Also, let me just say, don't make it just about Bd cricket and nothing else. Go off on tangents, develop interesting theories, this will give the shows more character.

Thanks bro...I got your twitter shout out as well! One of the good things about groups is it will always motivate you and energize you keep on chugging. You're the trailblazer of BD cricket podcasts!

haha Sam Harris...do I resemble him? I'll take that, lol. Yeah I'm planning on getting some guests.

As far as topics, I'm going to stick to cricket cuz thats honestly what I know best haha. That being said, if you guys notice my first 2 episodes say "Bangladesh Edition", i'm going to be doing a "Global Edition" as well, first episode of that (#3 overall) should be dropping tomorrow or the day after (unless I get busy doing something else).

if you are willing to fork out some money zencastr is the way to go. Only problem is that you may have to piece the audio bit by bit due to the differing sampling rates but it captures the audio from both the guests side to give optimal audio quality. This is what I use for my own podcast when we have overseas guests. It is heaps better than skype cos skype captures audio from only one person.
