সুযোগ পেলেই ব্যাটিং নিয়ে গ্রেটদের অনেকের সঙ্গে কথা বলেন তামিম ইকবাল। অনেক দিনের ইচ্ছে ছিল বিরাট কোহলির সঙ্গে কথা বলার। চ্যাম্পিয়ন্স ট্রফির সেমি-ফাইনালে খানিকটা সুযোগ হলো। কোহলি ম্যাচ জিতিয়ে ফেরার সময় ড্রেসিং রুমের ফেরার পথটুকুতে কথা বললেন তামিম। শুনলেন একজন রঘুর গল্প।


তামিমের সঙ্গে কথোপকথনের কিছুক্ষণ পর সংবাদ সম্মেলনে এলেন কোহলি। নানা প্রশ্নের ভীড়ে উঠল পর্দার আড়ালের নায়কদের প্রসঙ্গ। কোহলি আবারও বললেন সেই রঘুর কথা!

নিজের ব্যাটিংয়ে উন্নতির পেছনে ভারত অধিনায়ক বড় কৃতিত্ব দিলেন দুজনকে, যার একজন রঘু।

“সব কোচেরই অবদান আছে সাফল্যে। তবে ব্যাটিংয়ের কথা বললে আলাদা করে দুজনের কথা বলতেই হয়, সঞ্জয় বাঙ্গার ও রঘু। জানি না রঘুর কথা কজন জানেন। যেভাবে সে অনুশীলন করায়, নেটে ১৪৫-১৫০ কিমি গতিতে থ্রো ডাউন করে, ম্যাচে যাওয়ার পর ১৪০ কিমি গতির বোলারকে খেলা তুলনামূলক সহজ মনে হয়।”


“ব্যক্তিগত ভাবে আমি বলতে পারি, এই দুজন মানুষের কারণে আমার ব্যাটিংয়ে যে উন্নতি হয়েছে তা অমূল্য। অন্য পর্যায়ে নিয়ে গেছে আমার ব্যাটিংকে।”
সঞ্জয় বাঙ্গারকে না চেনার কারণ নেই। সাবেক ভারতীয় অললাউন্ডার, এখন ভারতের ব্যাটিং কোচ। তবে রঘু কে?

কোহলির কাছে অমূল্য এই মানুষটির নাম রঘুবিন্দ্র। পরিচয়, বল থ্রোয়ার। নেটে ভারতীয় ব্যাটসম্যানদের থ্রো ড্রাউন করেন আর্ম বল থ্রোয়ার দিয়ে। কোহলির ওপরের কথাতেই ফুটে উঠেছে রঘুর বিশেষত্ব। থ্রো ডাউন করতে পারেন তিনি ১৪৫-১৫০ কিলোমিটার গতিতে!

তামিম গিয়ে কোহলির কাছে জানতে চেয়েছিলেন স্রেফ একটি শটের কথা। কোহলি বললেন রঘুর অবদানের কথা। বিডিনিউজ টোয়েন্টিফোর ডটকমকে সেই গল্প শোনালেন তামিম।

“কোহলির একটি শট আছে, হিপে বা কোমরের দিকে বল এলে চোখের পলকে কবজির মোচড়ে মিড উইকেট বা স্কয়ার লেগে খেলেন। আমি জানতে চেয়েছিলাম, এই শট এত ভালো আয়ত্ত্ব করলেন কিভাবে। কোহলি বলেছে এটা অনেক অনুশীলনের ব্যাপার। ওদের নেটে রঘু নামের একজন আছেন, যিনি নেটে ১৪৫-১৫০ কিমি গতিতে বল থ্রো ডাউন খেলাতে পারেন ব্যাটসম্যানদের। ওর সঙ্গে প্র্যাকটিস করে শটটা নিঁখুত করেছে।”

সময়ের পরিক্রমায় বল থ্রোয়ার হয়ে গেলেও রঘুর লক্ষ্য ছিল একসময় ক্রিকেটার হওয়া। সেই আশা বুকে বেঁধেই কর্ণাটক থেকে এসেছিলেন মুম্বাইয়ে। তবে বাস্তবতার কষাঘাতে স্বপ্ন ছুটে যায় দ্রুতই। ক্রিকেটার হতে না পারলেও সিদ্ধান্ত নেন থাকবেন ক্রিকেটেই। নানা জায়গায় কোচিং সহকারী হিসেবে কাজ করে একসময় জায়গা হয় ভারতের জাতীয় ক্রিকেট একাডেমিতে।


একডেমিতেই একসময় শচিন টেন্ডুলকারের চোখে পড়েন রঘু। পরে রাহুল দ্রাবিড়ও দেখেন তার কার্যকারিতা। সেটি ২০১১ সাল। ওই বছরই অস্ট্রেলিয়া সফরে রঘুকে নিয়ে যায় ভারতীয় দল। রঘুর সেই থ্রো ডাউন এখনও চলছে বিরামহীন।
থ্রোয়ার দিয়ে মাত্র কয়েক পদক্ষেপে দেড়শ কিমি গতিতে বল করতে পারার কাহিনী জেনে যারপর নাই বিস্মিত তামিম। তবে এর আগেই রঘুর প্রতিভার সঙ্গে পরিচয় হয়েছে মাশরাফি বিন মুর্তজার। বাংলাদেশ অধিনায়কও শোনালেন রঘুকে চেনার গল্প।

“ভারতের অনুশীলনে দেখি একজন তীব্র গতিতে বল থ্রো ডাউন করছে। ব্যাটসম্যানদের কয়েকজনকে মনে হলো থ্রো ডাউনেও ঠিকমত খেলতে পারছে না। ধোনি পর্যন্ত সামলাতে পারছিল না, এতটাই গতিময় থ্রো ডাউন। মনে হলো, এই ছেলেটি দারুণ।”

“পরে আমি গিয়ে বেশ কিছুক্ষণ কথা বলেছি ওর সঙ্গে। স্রেফ কৌতুহল থেকে। খুব দ্রুতই বেশ আলাপ জমেছে। দেড়শ কিমি গতিতে বল ছুঁড়তে পারে, এরকম একজনকে নেট অনুশীলনে পাওয়া ভাগ্যের ব্যাপার।

ভারতের ফাইনালে ওঠা অবশ্য ভাগ্যের ব্যাপার নয়। রোহিত শর্মা, বিরাট কোহলিদের সাফল্যে বিরাট অবদান এই রঘুদের। একজন রঘুর সৌজন্যে প্রস্তুতি আদর্শ হয় বলেই মাঠে কোহলিদের ব্যাট কথা বলে অনায়াসে!

Tbh, none of our batsmen are world class. All of them averages <=35 in the ODIs. That's embarrassing for international standards. Even Pakistan have batsmen like Babar Azam who averages more than 50. In fact, even Sarfraz Ahmed, who is a wicket-keeper batsmen, has higher average than all of our batsmen. Clearly, stats prove that, if anything, each of our batsmen are miles overrated.

Not sure if Babar Azam (30 innings) are the best comparisons; players like Soumya, Nasir and Mominul (in Tests) also started with a bang but eventually stuttered. Let's see how he is going after he's played 100+ innings. Their most senior players at present like Hafeez and Malik average 32.69 and 35.35 respectively.

I don't get it. If Raghu is such a fantastic fast bowler, why is he not playing for the country? Why can't a net bowler be in the national team? It looks like many people are praising him and using him to hone their batting skills, but not giving him an opportunity at the national level for that selfish reason. That's crazy. Raghu should get an opportunity (again, if happened before) in the national team at this time regardless of his age. It's not an easy thing to bowl at that high speed consistently.

He isn't a fast bowler haha. He gives throw downs in the nets. Throw down is like a baseball pitch where you bend your arms and throw the ball to the batsmen at very high speeds.

BD players improved a lot in last 3 years. Yes, BD batsmen are nowhere near the world class batsmen re: average or SR. But their stat during 2015-17 would tell you a different story, Here is the ODI stat from 2015-17:

BAN:
Tamim's avg: 52.11 (37 innings)
Mushy's avg: 44.46 (33 innings)
Mullah's avg: 41.28 (32 innings)
Shakib's avg: 35.92 (32 innings)
Soumya's career avg: 35.52 (30 innings)

PAK:
Babar's career avg: 53.88 (31 innings)
Malik's avg: 53.12 (35 innings)
Sarfraz's avg: 44.03 (34 innings)
Hafeez's avg: 41.76 (37 innings)
Azhar's avg: 38.36 (36 innings)
Akmal's avg: 26.12 (14 innings)


So, they are easily comparable. During CT, PAK's young guns fired up both in batting and bowling whereas ours didn't. SS, Sabbir, Mosa, Fizz & Taskin didn't do close to what Fakhar, Hasan, Fahim, Raees did for their country.
