Play-offs (4 teams will go through): Portugal (Gr 1), Greece (Gr 2), Slovenia (Gr 3), Russia (Gr 4), Bosnia-Herzegovina (Gr 5), Ukraine (Gr 6), France (Gr 7), Republic of Ireland (Gr 8)
Switzerland is a very talented young team. They will cause a few upsets. I have no idea how good Slovakia is. Spain has to be one of the hot hot candidates to win it all. They are strong. Hate to see Sweden miss out with Zlatan. Also, sad to see Turkey not make the cut after the unbelievable Euro run. From the playoffs- I expect France, Portugal and Russia to make it, but it all depends on the draw.

Maradona, the cocaine king is full of talk right now after barely managing to squeak in, but as much as I hate that racist nation, a WC is not the same without Argentina, and specially without the likes of Leo Messi missing it out. It would have been terrible.

Anyone know the African update? I know SA ( host), Cote' voire, Ghana are through. What about the other two ?

Tiger Eye got it very close, S korea didnt play in 1982.

Mexico and England missed out in 1990 and 1994 respectively.

Belgium had an amazing run fo qualification (for such a small country) till 2002.

Now I somehow feel Argentina may play well in the real thing. Whenever they were favorites (2002, 2006), they failed, and if we see, Brazil scraped through qualification in 2002, and Italy were in turmoil in 2006.

So its Brazil or Argentina with England having an outside chance, as Capello is a very capable guy..

..
Cause I cheated and yet failed on Mexico and England.

As for S Korea, I interpreted the word 'since' as after 82

If NZ makes it to the cup ...

Best luck to the Kiwis, Porkos and the Bosnians in the play off.

It would be a pretty amazing stuff if both Aus/NZ qualifies. Coming to think of it, its almost unthinkable! Two neighbours of a grand total of 20.1 Mill + 3.5 Mill = 23.6 Mill ppl will have 2 teams whereas two other neighbours of 1.3 freakin billion + 1.1 freakin creepy billion ppl will hv none to represent them!!!

Good luck to Uruguay too. Ah, still remember their last 2 play offs against the Socceroos in 01 and
05. They qualified first time and lost second one. So, this is the third time in a row they are in a playoff.

Scotland disappoint again by not qualifying

Hope Brazil win the tournament and I predict England to go out in the quarters as usual and shut the english up..

To be honest, soccer never really took off in New Zealand

However this game was one of the biggest sporting achievements our country has achieved

Just getting to the soccer world cup is amazing, we will be destroyed, but we got there

Only way we ever make it to WC is to have a separate group outside of the current Asia group set up. If there is a South Asian group, with one spot for the world cup available, you will see football really taking off in the sub-continent. In this current set-up, competing with the Far Eastern nations ( Australia included ) and the Middle Eastern countries, that dream is miles away. I say, take one spot away from this rubbish CONCACAF and allocate it to South Asia, where 1/3 of humanity resides.

It's amazing that you got there. Congratulations.

It's not certain that you'll get destroyed. The soccer world cup is a funny competition and if the players give it their all then who knows, New Zealand might even make it to the second round. Take inspiration from the OZs.
