Default BD A-team Summer Campaigns 2019

Well, looks like we fielded the B-team against AFG A-team, while our A-team got other assignments.

BCB names 15-man team for ‘Mini Ranji’
Quote:
The Bangladesh Cricket Board on Saturday named a strong 15-member squad who will represent the Bangladesh Cricket Board XI in the Dr (Capt) K Thimmappaiah Memorial multi-day All India Cricket Tournament in Bangalore and Mysore from July 10.

Bangladesh team will participate alongside 15 other Indian teams in the tournament and they are in the ‘B’ Zone and will play against KSCA Secretary’s XI, Vidarbha Cricket Association and Dr DY Patil Cricket Academy in their group stage matches.

The tournament, which is also known as ‘Mini Ranji Trophy’, will see the teams divided into four zones of four teams each and the zone toppers will enter the semi-finals.

The final of the tournament will take place on August 3-6 at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru.

Bangladesh team will leave home on July 8 to participate in the tournament and they will face Vidarbha Cricket Association in their opening match on July 10-13.

BCB XI team: Abu Jayed, Nazmul Hossain, Nayeem Hasan, Mominul Haque, Ebadat Hossain, Robiul Haque, Jahurul Islam, Taskin Ahmed, Shadman Islam, Ariful Haque, Taijul Islam, Yasir Ali, Saif Hasan, Nurul Hasan and Shahidul Islam.

Wasim Jaffer takes charge of HP team
Quote:
Wasim Jaffer, the newly appointed batting coach for High Performance (HP) Unit, arrived in Dhaka to take the charge as he is expected to help the batsmen honing their skill.

The former Indian opener will train Bangladesh batsmen in the U-19s, the A team and also the senior side.

For Jaffer, this will be his first international coaching assignment.

The veteran opener, who played 31 Tests (five hundreds and 11 fifties) and two ODIs for India, came to the national academy premises on Sunday and got introduced with his charges.

The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) is currently running the four-month residential camp of HP unit to provide the players an opportunity to be in cricket continuously.

“We will use his expertise as per our requirements,” BCB game development chairman Abu Emam Mohammed Kawsar said.

Jaffer accepted the offer after being approached for the job by BCB. The 41-year-old was in Bangladesh for a couple of weeks to play in the Dhaka Premier League for Abahani Limited.

On that trip, the BCB officials were impressed upon seeing the seasoned campaigner at the nets. Recently, a few net sessions with the Mumbai run-machine helped Bangladesh batsman Soumya Sarkar score a hundred and a double-hundred in the DPL, Bangladesh’s premier one-day competition.

“I have seen his (Wasim) batting very closely. He is a very good and experienced player. He has scored 40,000 runs in his career. Since he scored such amount of runs, so he definitely has the quality,” Soumya said earlier.

Revealing how he picked Jaffer’s brains, Soumya said: “I have understood how he thinks in the field and outside the field. I also follow his way of batting. I talked with him about this, nothing more than that and just tried to follow his instructions.”

Shanto got in the team based on pure bias. Both Naeem and Bijoy did way better than him in the last FC season. Bijoy has just scored a century against AFG A-team to continue with his good form. He's a much better player of spin than Shanto is, and would have been a good pick for #4 slot.

Not convinced to see inexperienced Saif as Shadman's opening partner either. Saif still has a lot of issues to work out with his batting. I would keep him in the B-team against AFG, and would pick Zunaid Siddique who is having an excellent run in domestic FCs last three years.

Not a whole lot of point taking six pacers (Jayed, Ebadat, Robiul, Taskin, Ariful, Shahidul) to India. Could have taken one extra batsman.

KSCA Secretary’s XI: Rohan Kadam (Captain), Prithvi Varadarajan, Abhinav Manohar, Naga Bharath, Chiranjeevi G S (WK), Pravin Dubey, Nishanth Singh Shekawat, Karthik C A, Aman Khan, Anand Doddamani, Sharath H S, Shivam Mishra, Devaiah KS, Nihal Ullal (WK), Vidwath Kaverappa

Bunch of club players being trialed for Karnataka State team. Even the captain is yet to get his FC debut!

This would have been an appropriate tournament for our Academy team. But BCB is fielding our B-team against AFG A-team (that includes few of their Test players), so our A-team can play against bunch of club players

Vidarbha prolly will pose better challenge - they picked 11 players from their State age groups (U-19 and U-23) and another 9 players from their Ranji team for shortlist. A 15-member squad will be picked from the list for the tourny.

This is disappointing, it’s quit expensive for us with such a low budget to travel to BD and then play your 3rd XI instead of 2nd

Surprised to see Ariful Haque ahead of Naeem Islam

Junaid Siddique unfortunate to miss out.

I would've liked to see Yeasin Arafat

BCB XI, to their credit, is cruising to the final: https://www.ksca.cricket/matchcentre.html

They're likely to face Karnataka XI in the final, a team that include a good number of their Ranji players including Karun Nair and Shreyas Gopal.

^^ Both my predictions went wrong, the final will be Andhra vs Chhattisgarh. BCB XI was only good enough to beat club level teams in the group stage, but could not go past Chhattisgarh who brought a good number of Ranji players.

Aminul may be preferred over him, since Aminul is also selected for national team preliminary squad as a legspinner-allrounder.

My line-up would be:

Naim
Saif
Shanto
Yasir
Ankon+
Afif
Aminul
Nayeem
Shahidul
Yeasin
Shafiqul/Sumon

Better bowling and good contributions from Shanto, Yasir helped BD Emerging win the second match.

With the possibility of getting chance in the national team, some of the players are waking up and taking the game more seriously.

Well the performance of HP Team against a "Supposed Struggling" Sri Lanka HP side wasn't quite encouraging.

Wondering whether Simon Helmot is doing any good.

Most of the 2nd four-day match was ruined by rain. Afif still managed to score a century in two sessions BD Emerging team batted. Shanto scored 88 as well.
