Default South Africa A

Before you guys get any funny idea about how Bangladesh will make it three out of three (I know there are still those non-believers out there - including me - who think we can take on the world) let's look at the line up for today.

If you ask Tehsin the por-khawa, lathi-khawa, slow learning id--t, he will tell you that Bangladesh will lose BIG tonight. He'll tell you that there will be too possible outcomes (three - if it rains) where:
1- Bangladesh lose by 7/8 wickets (scoring below 150)
2- Bangladesh will lose by 140+ runs (scoring below 150 against SA As 250+)

If you ask Tehsin the dreamer, he'll have you believe that this is the match we turn around. A close fight either way wil see Bangladesh romp home for a 2/4 wicket win or a narrow 10-30 run win.

Only time will tell who is right. I am pretty sure a begative result won't effect the dreamer a bit but the por-khawa Tehsin will definitely lower his expectations for the rest of the series based on tonights performance.

Here's the team list and time of the match:

South Africa 'A' team: (from)
AJ Hall, LL Bosman, JA Rudolph, AG Prince, M van Jaarsveld, *ND McKenzie, RJ Peterson, +TL Tsolekile, DJ Terbrugge, A Nel, M Zondeki, E Nkwe.

Bangladeshis team: (from)
Javed Omar, Hannan Sarkar, Rafiqul Islam, Al Sahariar, Sanwar Hossain, Tushar Imran, *+Khaled Mashud, Mohammad Rafique, Talha Jubair, Tapash Baisya, Khaled Mahmud, Habibul Bashar, Manjural Islam, Alok Kapali, Anwar Hossain Monir.

Match State: Match start scheduled for 10am local time (8am GMT) - Rounghly 2 am central, check your time.

Default Match Coverage (Chat)

Those of you who have the luxury to stay up tonight (I can't) are welcome to use the CHAT room. So, get your pop corns and medium sized (don't think the match will be long enough to require a large one) soda and hop into your comfy chair to follow the game and keep everyone updated.

Only one request, when you are watching the match on cricinfo, have someone right next to you wearing a T-shirt proclaiming - "I'm with stupid" IF you think our boys will perform a miracle tonight.

Default Only 4 Batsman?!?

The Bangladesh team has taken only four batsman in today's important match against South Africa A?

That is stupid as neither Khaled Mashud nor Alok Kapali is a batsman - well at least not batsman enough to bat against quick bowling on bouncy pitches.

Default I am confused

If Anwar Hossain Monir is playing, then why wasn't he given the ball even at least once?

I guess there are mistakes somewhere - either Anwar Hossain is not playing in the BD XI, or he bowled 5 overs whereas the Cricinfo scorecard is saying Sanwar Hossain has bowled 5 overs.

Default Sujon and Rafique

I don't understand this and correct me if I am wrong - both Khaled Mahmud Sujon and Mohammad Rafique came back to the Bangladesh national team in the SL tour as One Day specialists, bowled exceedingly well in the Sri Lanka tour.

And after a short break they had played for Bangladesh later - in the 2 ICC champion's trophy matches and now today against South Africa A - they are both ridiculous as bowlers - today they gave away 7 runs per over.

How come? On the other hand, Tapash Baisya's (and may be also Monju) performance with the ball was that he was giving away 6 runs an over in the Sri lanaka tour, and then came back in the 1 game that he played in the ICC Champions' trophy against Australia and since then he has been bowling much better.

Can we see the coach's influence in here? I know that Mohsin Kamal is a pace bowler. Is he working on both Monju and Tapash and has been ignoring Sujon and Rafique in the meantime? We also know that Kapali is his best student - and since the SL tour, Kapali has also been bowling well - whenever he is given the ball.

Default bowlers

the wickets in SA are supposed to be better for pacers whereas slower bowlers had more success on the SL wickets - so it may be the wickets and not a sudden change in form in either direction.

I just saw the scorecard and not live commentary. did khaled mahmud bowl his usual 10 overs at a stretch? that's usually how he gives up his allotment of 100 runs, in the last couple of overs.

sanwar hossain vs anwar hossain is always confusing. you never know who is bowling. but if monir was not used, then why is he on the team as a 6th bowler?

we don't have enough batsmen to come close here. I say keep the best pacer for the conditions among sujon, monir and talha and bring javed omar back for the 1st one day.

Default THE SA A line up

This was a 'PRACTICE' match of sorts, giving the players and the managements to sort out a few things. They tried out a different combination and Golla, being the natural selection that he is, was left out. He should be back for the one dayers.

Not too sure about having the two spinners because of the wickets down there.

Sujon bowled 10 overs straight (I think). Something that could have been avoided and should be avoided.

Default bowling 10 overs straight

is this a bangladesh phenomenon only (besides sujon, it's done with workhorse spinners like moni) or do other teams do this as well? what kind of insane reasoning can there be for this?

maybe rafique should be dropped for another pacer as in talha jubair. but SA may have some trouble against spin so...I'd like to know when rafique if rafique can put a decent knock together one of these days - he used to be a hitter

not 10 straight..maybe 9, probably less because as far as I followed before my class Mahmud bowled one over and oddly was replaced by Kapali after conceding "only" 5 runs.
