Default Phil Hughes in critical condition

Phil Hughes has been hit by a bouncer at a Sheffield Shield match at SCG and is under critical condition now.

May Allah cure him fully soon.

Just saw the clip. It seems like the ball brushed pass his neck ( jugular?) at speed. This could be fatal -God forbid.

May Allah grant Phil a speedy and full recovery...aameen!!!

I wonder if we have qualified and competent medics and equipments at our domestic matches!

The other day when Shakib was searching for his 5th wicket and we had men around the bat in the ODI game, the batsman crashed three consecutive boundaries and all were dangerously close to the fielders. It was scary to watch. We need helmets and protective gear of the highest quality for our own players especially in Australia.

I am sure Phil wasn't using a helmet made in Jinjira. There will always be danger attached with sports, especially, cricket. One simply cannot protect all the areas. That's where courage and skills come in. Just imagine Sir Viv taking on Lillie, Thompson, Imran and some of his famous countrymen without a helmet and no quotas on the chin music per over, either!

very sad sad news. I hope he recovers soon. The ball hit him and he stood motionless for few seconds and then fell face down on to the pitch and there was blood. The game was abandoned and he was taken to hospital on life support.

I also had the sickening feeling before I was able to bring myself to watch the clip. Perhaps, you're doing the right thing by not watching it -even though it doesn't look like the worse video one will ever watch.

The ball actually didn't hit the helmet -what I saw- as Phil was trying to hook the bouncer and missed it and got hit on his neck area as he pivoted for the hook/pull. It looked like just any other day when a batter got hit by a bouncer. Initially, he remained on his feet, after a minute somewhat crouched and collapsed and fell right on his face. Which, in itself, must have been yet another major blow to his head.

Once again, my prayers are with Phil and his family. May Allah grant him a complete recovery!

Induced comma. Still critical condition. The first blow was right below the helmet on the back and left side of the head by the ball. The second blow was head first hitting the ground when he collapsed. Prayers are the most important remedy now. The Doctor's have done what they could do.

I feel worse than when Rana died. Car accidents happen...but to die on the pitch is so rare and gruesome it is very tough. I almost cried.

Spare a thought for Abbot who has to live with this the rest of his life.
