Default Observations

Got to watch Talha, Ashraful, Sumit and Kapali bowl for the first time.

His first over, Talha (who actually does look very young) was about as fast as Manjurul, and his second over he was around 130kph, his fastest being 133.8 or something like that. Although his action and pace is very promising, he REALLY needs to work on his line. He generates incredible swing and has absolutely no control. If he can get some control on that, he will be a good prospect.

Manjurul bowled well, and had some zippy deliveries, including the one that almost shaved Styris's face (130 kph).

Sujon and Sumit demonstrated again what a good length and line can do, even when you don't have much pace.

I don't know what to say about the batting. It was really heartbreaking!!

Default Javed Omar and Habibul Bashar

Since Bangladesh's tour of Zimbabwe, Akram Khan and Aminul Islam started to bat really inconsistently, may be even before that - since 98 that their batting form had started to go down and down, proof is that once their batting average was at around 25 and since then their batting average went down at first at 24 and then it has gone down to as low as 23.

During Bangladesh's tour of Zimbabwe, the selectors, team management at that time had started to think of introducing new faces - by dropping these two batsman and since then Javed Omar and Habibul Bashar was starting to become a Aminul Islam and Akram Khan - that is, the two most dependable batsman for Bangladesh.

But through injury, both these batsman have suffered a lot and now their form is nowhere to be seen after they had returned back from injury.

As a result, the whole Bangladesh team is suffering from a really bad form with the bat. Players like Tushar Imran, Khaled Mahmud had come up in the meantime sometimes to fill out the positions of the most dependable batsman, but they too are now suffering from some amnesia or something.

So, if Bangladesh has to improve on batting, either Javed Omar and Habibul Bashar has to come out from their poor running with the bat, or newcomers will have to replace the places of Habibul Bashar and Javed Omar.

Interestingly, Mehrab Hossain - who had his best form with the bat during the whole year of 1999, also had started run into a poor batting form.

His batting average was at one stage 30 and now it has gone down to 27.

On the other hand, Javed Omar and Habibul Bashar's batting average was on the rise - Javed Omar's batting average was on 30 before this ICC Champions trophy and Habibul Bashar's batting average had improved from 13 (before Asia cup 2000) to 21 (now).
