প্রধান কোচ স্টিভ রোডসের কোচিং ধরণের সঙ্গে না মিল না হওয়ায় বাংলাদেশ দলের সঙ্গে তার পথ আলাদা হওয়ার কথা জানিয়েছেন বিসিবি প্রধান নাজমুল হাসান পাপন। তবে তাকে তারা একেবারে বাদ দেননি বলেও জানিয়েছেন তিনি।

সেমিফাইনালের আশা নিয়ে বিশ্বকাপে গিয়ে বাংলাদেশের শেষটা হয়েছে হতাশায়। দশ দলের মধ্যে আট নম্বরে থেকে ফিরতে হয়েছে দেশে। এরপরই চুক্তি কমিয়ে রোডসের সঙ্গে সম্পর্ক ছিন্ন করার কথা জানান বিসিবির দায়িত্বশীলরা।

কীসের ঘাটতি থাকায় কোচকে আর রাখতে চাইছে না বিসিবি? লন্ডনের চিজউইকে ইন্টারপার্লামেন্� �ারি ক্রিকেট টুর্নামেন্টের খেলা দেখতে এসে বিসিবি প্রধান নাজমুল হাসান দিলেন কোচকে না রাখার ব্যাখ্যা, ‘মূলত প্রতি বিশ্বকাপের পর প্রত্যেক দলেরই একটা মূল্যায়ন হয় কোচিং স্টাফ, খেলোয়াড়দের নিয়ে। এটাই এটার একটা প্রক্রিয়া। একেকজনের একেক রকম ধরন থাকে। ওর ধরন খারাপ সেটা বলছি না। কিন্তু অনেক সময় হয় কি, আমাদের সঙ্গে একই রকম চিন্তাধারা না থাকলে অনেক সমস্যা হয়। সেজন্য আমরা মনে করেছি...(বিকল্প ভাবার)।’

তবে কোচের সঙ্গে পারস্পারিক বোঝাপড়ায় সম্পর্ক ছিন্ন করে ফেললেও বিসিবি প্রধান জানান, এখনো নাকি চাইলে কয়েকমাস থেকে যেতে পারেন রোডস, ‘কিন্তু তাকে আমরা বাদ দেইনি। তার একটা অপশন ছিল যে ইচ্ছা করলে থাকতেও পারে। আরও কয়েকমাস থাকতে পারে। তার সঙ্গে পারষ্পারিকভাবে আলাপ করে দেখেছি। বড় একটা সম্ভাবনা আছে ও চলে যাবে। কিন্তু এখন পর্যন্ত আমরা তার কাছ থেকে কিছু (উত্তর) পাইনি। কাজেই অপশন শেষ হয়নি।’

তাকে বাদ দেয়া বড্ড ভুল হয়ে গেল। সে যদি বেশি নরমই হয়ে থাকে, তাকে তো সেটা বুঝিয়ে বলা যেত। এরকম কোচ খুব কমই পাওয়া যাবে যে কিনা আমাদের ঘরোয়া ক্রিকেটের প্রতিও নজর রাখে। ভাল ক্রিকেটার বের করে আনার জন্যে এটা খুবই জরুরী, যা কিনা হাথুরুর মধ্যে ছিলনা। রোডস তো হাথুরুর মত স্বেচ্ছাচারিতাও করতেন না, অযথা বাড়তি ছুটিও নেননি। বিসিবি তাদের কোচদেরকে যেভাবে বিদায় জানাচ্ছে, ভবিষ্যতে কোন ভাল কোচ এখানে আসতে চাইবে না।
