I am keeping expectations low today, not because the team is not good enough but because when things are going bad this team does not have the mental strength to stand up and do something about it, the Sri Lanka match this tournament and CT 2017 vs NZ were two exceptions. The team is good enough to beat Afghanistan.

Normally wouldn't swap Mithun and Mosaddek in the middle of a series, but Mosaddek did well vs spin on this wicket vs AFG.

Extremely difficult to beat a team 5 times in a row. I think we'll win tomorrow after a hard-fought match.

Liton’s record may be a case of poor selection strategy. of course his record is his record but he’s played a small number of matches but inconsistently. If he had played all these matches consecutively then there’s a case that he’s been given a fair go but really he hasn’t. He got 9 innings in 2015 not so bad and dropped due to lack of performance, we should have then kept him around for another 10 or so matches or when he was brought back given him a good run but after 2015 he got 3 innings in 2017 (last match in October) and then back in the team nearly a year later this year with the first Asia cup match.

So he got an ok run in 2015 but he was still about 20 years old only, other than that his odi run hasn’t been consistent.

Mosaddek is a different case, he’s got a good solid run over the last 2-3 years but he’s only batted above 6 once and he’s clearly not a lower order quality odi bat even if he plays that role in domestics. He got a few months break end of December 2016 to March 2017 but was that scheduling of the national team? His other break was mid 2017 to mid 2018 but I think that’s been because of his eye issue? Even still he’s had 8 or more matches each time (though didn’t bat in all of the matches).

Liton should be given rest of the series but Legside Liton was never going to be a good ODI player. At least not now without developing his game further.

Agree on Mosaddek. Playing him at 7 does more harm than good. Either play him at 5 or don't select him for ODIs. He's made for test but only played two tests.

Our selectors need to do a better job and pick players for the right formats and for the right roles.

ভারত ম্যাচেও লিটন-নাজমুলের ব্যর্থতায় বাংলাদেশ ইনিংস চলার সময়ই যে তাঁদের আনার সিদ্ধান্ত হয়ে যায়, সেটিও এখন দিবালোকের মতো স্পষ্ট। কারণ খোদ অধিনায়ক মাশরাফি বিন মর্তুজাও এটি নিয়ে অন্ধকারে ছিলেন অনেকটাই। পরশু রাতের ম্যাচ-পরবর্তী সংবাদ সম্মেলনের পর তাঁকে বলতে শোনা গেছে, ‘একজনকে আনার একটি আলোচনা ছিল। তবে দুজন যে আসবে, সেটি জানতাম না। ’ অধিনায়ক জানেন না কিন্তু ভারত ম্যাচে মেহেদী হাসান মিরাজের সঙ্গে তাঁর ৬৬ রানের পার্টনারশিপের সময়ই দুজনকে আনার সিদ্ধান্ত হয়ে যায়। সেটি কে দিলেন? এমন প্রশ্নে কাল ম্যানেজার খালেদ মাহমুদও শুরুতে আমতা আমতা করলেন। যিনি কিনা তামিম চোট পাওয়ার পরও বুক চিতিয়ে বলেছিলেন, ‘১৬ জন নিয়ে এসেছি না? আর কাউকে আনতে হবে কেন?’ অথচ একজন নন, চলে এসেছেন একাধিক ব্যাটসম্যান। মাহমুদ যদিও জানিয়ে রাখলেন, ‘টিম ম্যানেজমেন্ট একজনকেই চেয়েছিল। ’ সংখ্যাটা দ্বিগুণ করে দেওয়ার কারণটি যে বাংলাদেশ ক্রিকেট বোর্ড (বিসিবি) সভাপতি নাজমুল হাসানই ঘটিয়েছেন, সেটি মাহমুদের একটু রেখে-ঢেকে কথা বলার চেষ্টায়ই স্পষ্ট হয়ে উঠেছে। দুবাইয়ের স্থানীয় সময় সন্ধ্যা ঘনাতে না ঘনাতেই দেওয়া সিদ্ধান্তের পর নাজমুল মধ্যরাতে টিম হোটেলে যেতে যেতে ইমরুল-সৌম্যকে এভাবে আনা নিয়ে সমালোচনার স্রোতও বেগবান হয়েছে আরো। এর প্রভাবে আরো অস্বাভাবিক কিছুও ঘটে যেতে পারত বলে জানা গেছে। নাজমুল নাকি প্রয়োজনে সিদ্ধান্ত পরিবর্তনের ভার টিম ম্যানেজমেন্টের ওপর ছেড়ে দিয়ে বলেছিলেন, ‘দল যদি মনে করে, তাহলে দুজনের মধ্যে একজনকে দেশেই রেখে দিই। ’ বলা বাহুল্য সে রকম কোনো সিদ্ধান্ত দিয়ে আরো সমালোচনার ঝুঁকিতে যেতে চায়নি টিম ম্যানেজমেন্টও। তাতে খুলনায় বাংলাদেশ লাল আর সবুজের মধ্যে চার দিনের ম্যাচের তৃতীয় দিনে তড়িঘড়ি ঢাকায় আসা দুজনের মধ্যে কপাল পুড়তে পারত সৌম্যরই। কারণ দলের মধ্যে যে একজনকে আনার আলোচনা ছিল, সেই ব্যাটসম্যান নাকি ইমরুলই। চার দিনের ম্যাচে ফিফটি করা এই বাঁহাতি ওপেনারের অভিজ্ঞতাই নাকি এখন অমূল্য মনে হতে শুরু করেছে। তবে তাঁর অভিজ্ঞতাকে মূল্য দিতে গিয়ে অন্যদের পর্যাপ্ত সুযোগ না দেওয়ার আলোচনাও শুরু হয়ে গেছে। তরুণ নাজমুল খেললেন মোটে দুই ম্যাচ। আর লিটনের টানা তিন ম্যাচে রান না পাওয়ার সঙ্গে এই তথ্যও তো জুড়ে দিতে হয় যে চলতি বছর সাতটি ওয়ানডেতে সুযোগ পেয়েও উল্লেখযোগ্য কোনো পারফরম্যান্স নেই এনামুল হকের। তাহলে দুই-তিন ম্যাচের ব্যর্থতায়ই দল নিয়ে এত অস্থিরতা কেন? এ রকম ঘটনাপ্রবাহ তরুণদের পারফরম করার পথ যে আরো কঠিন করে তুলতে পারে, সাকিবের কথা সে ইঙ্গিতই দেয়, ‘আমরা ওদের ওপর অল্প সময়ে এত বেশি চাপ দিয়ে ফেলি যে ওদের জন্য ভালো করার সম্ভাবনাটা আরো কমে যায়। যে চার-পাঁচজনের (সিনিয়র পাঁচজন) কথা আপনারা বলেন, আমরা কেউই কিন্তু বীর পালোয়ান ছিলাম না। শেষ চার বছরের ক্যারিয়ার দেখছেন আপনারা। এর আগের ছয়-সাত বছরের কথা বললে আমরাই বা কতখানি ভালো ক্রিকেট খেলেছি? নতুন নতুন পরিস্থিতিতে পড়তে পড়তে মানুষ যখন শিখবে, তখন তার পক্ষে ভালো করা সম্ভব। আমরা ওদের সেই সুযোগটি হয়তো দিতে পারছি না সেভাবে। এই পরিস্থিতিতে পারফরম করা ওদের জন্য তাই কঠিনই। ’  নীতিনির্ধারকদের অস্থিরতাই সে কাজটি কঠিন করে দিচ্ছে আরো!
