Glad to see Hasan Mahmud and Shoriful being brought in the mix. IMO, it's about time to phase Rubel out.

Rubel isnt a deadbeat. He has been performing very well since cricket resumed and has definitely gained back some pace and accuracy.

Not sure what chance you are talking about.. He was always decent in ODIs as far as I recall. If you are talking about other formats, then that's a different story all together.

Because of fog, the match was reduced to one innings. Da Silva highest scored with 56, followed by Powell with 49. Hosein and Reifer got two wickets each. Batting side scored 258/9 in 47 overs.

The coach said Shakib is going to be back in the middle order.
Quote:
Shakib Al Hasan will be eased back into the thick of things in his comeback series. He will bat in the middle order, and not at No. 3, where he scored two centuries and five fifties at the 2019 World Cup. That spot will now be taken by Najmul Hossain Shanto, a young left-handed batsman who is trying to establish himself in the side.

I like that approach. We can have a powerful ODI squad once we get our bowling right.

Dont like this at all. Why on earth would you make changes to a position that finally worked for us? Its the future planning again... We are so obsessed with developing new players for the future, we are ready to sacrifice our present. Would India change Kohli for a prospect? would NZ change Williamson for the best prospect in the system? Its only in Bangladesh. Shakib is not gonna be happy. He wanted to plat that position and he proved it loud and clear. And now we are gonna replace him for someone who scored a grand total of 55 runs from 5 matches he played.

Out of the last 10 ODI games, they swapped 1 out of 10 times. Not exactly "all the time"
Also if they swapped, that was definitely Kohli's call to play KL for whatever the game plan was. The think tank will never sit down and ask Kohli to sacrifice his spot for KL or whoever it is.

Assuming Liton will be preferred as Tamim's opening partner, I guess Soumya will be a bench warmer this series?
Hope Shanto will be finally able to translate his domestic form into internationals this series.

Rinat, I personally don't see any reason that Shakib's slot should be set in stone because what he did two years ago. He has been out of competitive cricket for a year, his batting struggles were very apparent in the T20 tournament. In his current form, I would demote him even further, behind Mushfiq at #5.
Nonetheless, I agree that Domingo is making a big gamble on Shanto, who is yet to bloom at the international stage. The other option is going back to Soumya, who unfortunately has not been living up to the promise he has shown in the early part of his career.

See Eshen, there is a difference between setting a position to stone and allowing a guy to retain a spot he successfully held until he stopped playing. He asked to play that role and in my opinion, its not right to take that away from him when we don't even know how he will perform. Pretty much everyone will start raw due to covid. For Shakib its a longer break but then we are also talking about Shakib Al Hasan... if there is one player in the team that you can count on for making the quickest comeback, Its him. I am just saying, not many teams in the world would take away a spot after what he did in the world cup. They will atleast give him a few series to see if he can slot in before making adjustments. Unless of course, Shakib asked to play down in order to play an easier role...

Well, like you said, this is a series after a very long break. Moreover, this a home series against a depleted opponent. IMO, Domingo is entitled to do some experiments, to test out to see what options he has to build up for next WC.
If Shanto sucks, Shakib shines, Shakib gets his slot back. If both shines, we get a stronger batting order. If both sucks, oh well...
