Default West Indies Tour of Bangladesh 2021

West Indies announced their squad for the upcoming 2 Tests and 3 ODIs against Bangladesh. All the major players opted out of the tour due to Covid reason...

Test squad: Kraigg Brathwaite (capt), Jermaine Blackwood, Nkrumah Bonner, John Campbell, Rahkeem Cornwall, Joshua Da Silva, Shannon Gabriel, Kavem Hodge, Alzarri Joseph, Kyle Mayers, Shayne Moseley, Veerasammy Permaul, Kemar Roach, Raymon Reifer, Jomel Warrican

ODI squad: Jason Mohammed (capt), Sunil Ambris, Nkrumah Bonner, Joshua Da Silva, Jahmar Hamilton, Chemar Holder, Akeal Hosein, Alzarri Joseph, Kyle Mayers, Andre McCarthy, Kjorn Ottley, Rovman Powell, Raymon Reifer, Romario Shepherd, Hayden Walsh Jr.

For Bangladesh, nothing changes, need those 5 wins. Lets hope WI regrets this decision!

Why do you think WI players those opted out would regret the decision even if we win all 5? Do you think win or loss has got anything to do with the decision over a pandemic?

^^ditto!

With these squads for both red ball and white balls, I’m okay with them. I get it that most players opted out due to personal reasons and COVID...and they don’t face any repercussions doing so.

I’m very much excited with the test squad. I hope Joshua Da Silva can continue with his positive cricket...he’s shown in the tour of New Zealand that he has the best technique as a batsman. I’m hopeful that he’ll play the spinners of Bangladesh well. Permaul gets in because he’s been the best spinner in the region

Why do you think WI players opted out due to the current pandemic?

At this rate, Zimbabwe, Afghanistan, Ireland, Hong Kong will also dictate their terms with BCB. BCB has been very incompetent in recent times.

How many times Aus canceled their tours? I hear NZ series might also be canceld.

I though BCB is doing fine in politics...except developing cricket infrastructures nationwide in Bangladesh!

What a terrible WI team.
Ours seems to be equally bad!

Our squads look good, barring few questionable selections (as always).

Mithun: Considering his below average FC stats, it's very puzzling to see him keep getting selected for Test team. Hope Yasir will be finally given his Test debut in Mithun's place.

Mahedi (not Miraz): Doesn't really have any serious talent to lurk around the national team. The selectors need to move on.

Mahedi could be a very good limited over all rounder.

I would play it safe and go with the experienced players for the 1st ODI -

Tamim
Liton
Soumya
Mushfiq
Shakib
Mosaddek
Riyad
Saifuddin
Miraz
Taskin
Fizz

How so? I can barely recognize 5 players from the WI squad, whereas ours has the usual names you see every series.

B-rated WI squads and a BD series, name a better love story!

Not a big fan of Miraz for ODI's. I think Nayeem Hasan is a far better off spinner (probably the best one in Bangladesh). Nayeem is highly under-rated.

Also Taskin did not do anything special in the latest Bangabandhu cup. We have better pacers with more control.

I would also consider Naim Sheikh to open the batting. Another highly under-rated Naim in the team. I would have him open with Tamim. Liton can bat at 3. Naim would replace soumya or Mosaddek (preferably mosaddek).

we were talking about this in BC FB group... If Shakib retains the no.3 spot, Shanto or Soumya doesn't make the team. We need to stop forcing players to slot in for a role that doesn't suit them. Shanto shouldnt be playing anywhere below no.3. But with Shakib batting in that position and Mushy at 4, the next available slot is no.5 and neither Shanto nor Soumya should occupy that. The position can go to someone like Yasir who is perfect for that slot.

My ODI XI would be,

Tamim
Liton
Shakib
Mushy
Yasir
Riyad
Mahedi
Saifuddin
Nayeem
Fizz
Rubel

Shakib-Mushy-Yasir makes a stable batting core while Riyad-Mahedi-Saifuddin is our best available set of finishers

If there is any series to try out Shanto, this would be it.

I would love to.. but tell me where? He is a top order batsman and with Shakib back, there isn't any spots left. I don't want to turn Shanto into another Mosaddek by playing him at a slot where he doesnt belong. Unless Shakib willingly drops down to no.5, Shanto doesnt have a spot

Number 5 is not too low for Shanto imo. He's a good rotator and can go big.

It is too low. You make him a middle order batsman from a top order batsman. It may not seem like a big drop from 3 to 5, but the whole approach and playing style changes. Why would you do that to a young player?
