Default The Mehedi Hasan Miraz Thread

Thought this guy deserved a thread of his own.

Pinak and Shanto may have stolen the show yesterday, but to me Mehedi Hasan Miraz was the most impressive player, and the one to watch out for.

Media was quick to label him the next Shakib. Kind of does remind me of Shakib, Naimur Rahman. Seems to be so calm, composed. Very good captaincy in how he changed the bowling, his general conduct, professionalism.

I didnt get to see him bat, but seems like he was doing ok. He is pretty intelligent with the ball, and probably took one of the better catches i ve seen in a long time.

He wants to end this tournament as the top all rounder. Wish him the best and hope he can steer Bangladesh to the title.

Not to mention, he seems to have gotten an excellent start to his FC career as well, already a 10 Wicket haul there.

Dunno, don't see what's so great about his bowling. Yet another finger roller than a genuine spinner. Batting wise struggled to rotate strike. But that's just 1 match - maybe it's a one-off. Good skipper though.

Batting needs to improve against pacers. His feet went nowhere against Sipalma. Good player of spin.

About his bowling, looked like he can drop the ball in good areas. Does not extract much turn. He can do a holding job and a slightly better bowler than Mahmudullah.

Gun fielder.

His bowling rotation is impressive. Good head on shoulder. Captaincy material.

Reminds me very much of how Naimur used to bowl. Not much turn or skill, but would bowl in the right areas, and try to read the batsman. Seen him for the first time yesterday, his FC record does suggest he is no part timer.

very surpised to see him lead 2014 under 19 WC too at the age of 16, when the team had lots of future national star and senior than him like (shadman, liton das, mosaddek, jubair, mustafiz, abu haider)

media already named him next shakib--only time will justify the name

but this guy is cool headed and super consistent with his performance and brilliant fielder too

He's also another 'no turn' spinner.
Bowl in r8 line and length
just wait for Batsman's mistake.

Same old Story of BD spinners..

Lol.

Give me a name who turn the ball with a brand new ball unless it's a 5th day pitch

There are quit a few who can turn the brand new balls..very STUPID Question..

However, Give me a name of one BD finger spinner who turns the bowl well regularly.

We can't be looking at Miraz to become one of our frontline spinners. If he can restrict opponents and pick up few wickets and be good enough to bat in middle order, I'll be happy.

In general, spinners are like wine; they get better as they age.

He is not a genuine spinner more of an allrounder and i guess you know that. Still he can suffocate batsman with his bowling when team needs him most, he can destroy opposition with his bating when team needs him. What more a team can ask from such player. He is a genuine deal for our future.

This is a problem most teams are facing. Real dearth of quality strike spinners worldwide.

India has Ashwin, Australia has Lyon, Pakistan HAD Yasir Shah

Other than that very hard to find the spinners you are referring to.

Miraz didnt extract any turn, but i was quite impressed with his control, and intelligence. Those are the basics, and foundation. If thats strong, i am sure Kalpage or some other spin coach will be able to help them learn new tricks, turn etc.

But the problem is They at least got someone in their past.

And us.. Our finger spinners including Ace spinners rarely turn a bowl well. You know 'tricky' bowler'. And not having much wrist spinners makes it more difficult for BD as it means we never had good turner spin bowlers at all.
I am not saying slow bowlers without much turn aren't great. But we need variations. Because if these bowler don't have good day for some reason will be much handier.
I remember Afridis quote on BD in one Pak TV Show..(I tried my best to state what he said)
'Unlogoke ball jeada turn nahi karti. Luffe marte hai. Magar line and lengh acchi hai. Ar kuch bawl andar ghush jeata hai. Thori khosis se easily khel shakte ho".
(Their deliveries generally don't turn much. All almost straight bowls. But line and length good. Aware of Arm deliveries with no turn at all. By trying little to read the bowler one can easily play them).
And RIGHTLY so.

Yeah agree. I think BCB have been very poor in this department. We do much publicized pace hunts but nothing on spin.

We dont have good coaches for spin. Saqlain was the only specialised coach we got for the role, but that too not utilized properly.

Also the nature of our wickets support straight disciplined bowling. Normally bowlers can extract much more turn in Indian or Sri Lankan wickets.

Finally any domestic team will select the proven SLA who can bowl wicket to wicket. They will never give a chance to someone different.

Hard working intelligent cricketer, but don't see him as next Shakib. More likely, he will be next Riyad who bowls regularly.

At U/19 level, I don't think number of career wickets or runs is a good indicator of future potential. In general, subcontinental teams play more matches at this level thus their players have better career stats. A better indicator is at average runs scored or wickets taken.

Actually the best indicator is when you watch the u19 player in your own eyes playing few games and make your own assessment. Only then you can tell who is over hyped and who is not, and who have the other qualities that cannot be captured in stat.

No offence to the experts. but that happened quite a few times with some of our young players.

Murali, Swan, Warne, McGill, Kaushal (from Lanka), Harbhajan (before injury) are a few that come to mind. You can tell those that rip a ball by how they come down on their pivot foot and the dip on the ball in air.

As a point of comparison just watch a Taijul Islam delivery vs. a Shak delivery.

Miraz is a finger roller, not a finger spinner. But he's effective enough in BD conditions.

Miraz doesn't need to be a specialized spinner in the team. If he can bowl 10 economical overs and get some wickets, he will be an useful asset to the team.

And who knows over time, most likely he will get better with his bowling like Sakib, Rafiq and Razzak did in their career.

Well Shakib was also only a decent bowler when he started off, nothing extraordinary. He improved tremendously over the years. So fingers crossed with Miraz.
