Good dig Miju, forgot about that. Whatever happened to Ehteshamul? Such an interesting and polite young man incurring no doubt the justified wrath of Les Mods de BC.
The ONLY great thing about watching Z Sports is all the old cricket they show ...

I remember when Viv first started he was no complete batsman, he used to take balls from outside off-stump and flick it through midwicket effortlessly.
So the Australians began focusing on a 9 inches outside off-stump, that was more like "off-stump" to him. They had their success, they had him caught in the slips, off the edge a few times.....
But it was the biggest mistake they ever made, because they not only turned him into the best leg side player in the world, but he was now one of the best off-side players as well.
Watching FC Cricket in Guyana, I remember how on the international arena he was the hardest hitter of the cricket ball. I disagree. There was a man by the name of Collis King who could hit the ball harder than Viv, I watched both play First Class cricket, no doubt who the better cricketer was, but I think Collis was a harder hitter. However, the most complete hitter I've ever seen is without a doubt Viv.

Dear WI4EVER,
Can you recall some of his domestic innings that has eched in your heart? Would be nice to read something for the first time on Viv.

It's hard to find batsmen these days who will hit you harder and farther the more you sledge them.

West Indian Viv Richards, who'd played and missed at several balls. Foolishly, the bowler piped up: "Hey Viv, it's red and it's round."
Next delivery the ball was out of the park.
"You know what it looks like, now go fetch it". It was King Viv's response to England and Glamorgan paceman, Greg Thomas's stupid idea to taunt him.

Marshall to Boon: asked him: "Are you going to get out soon, David, or do I have to come around the wicket and kill you?"
Those were the good old days!!

I'm still going to say, great batsman as he was, he just couldnt play legspin.
He was Abdul Qadir's bunny, he couldnt play BoB Holland and he wasnt darn lucky never to face Warne.

One of my great Viv memories was when he would be sledged by the average bowler, he would point to the scoreboard, after that the bowler was his......

From his account, he never ever ever lost a starring battle with any bowler he faced.
As cunning as he was, he knew the bowler must go back to his spot thus turn around, lol. Later revealed after his retirement.

While watching him play, as if it was Gayle and Lara combined. Carefree but authoritive. Chewing his gum as if there was no tomorrow, the game was too easy to him and all bowlers are street cricketers. Yes, he got out just like others but mentally he owned them. Never to wear a helmet. And why would he need one anyway when he had faced the world's most fearsome attack at the nets with just a cap.

Indeed indeed.
But what happens when you have the same kind of arrogance coming from a batsman from the UAE? Remember Sultan Zarwani against Allan Donald in the '96 WC game? Furthermore, he promised to continue to bat bear-headed after that.
There was also this one time that Viv scared the s**t out of an Aussie bowler when he took him by the collar in his locker room at the end of the day. The man pinned his opponent to the wall and was pretty damn pissed. “If you are going to call me a black bastard, how observant of you to notice that I am black, but do you have the documentation to prove I am a bastard?”
I think international captains banned their players from sledging him at one point.

There was the famous "we'll make them Grovel" comment by Tony Greig. Viv kinda made Mr. Greig swallow those words with a healthy size 10 boot down the throat.

Great Player; interms of skill & attitude. A Hero of modern days cricket; what he did at that time; Was hard to believe without seeing him do. Changed the perspective of game altogether. One of my all time favorites with out any doubt.

The only batter I saw, who can flick a fast ball pitched in off stump. I am fan of his this shot.
