Hmm, come to think of it we also left out "11 of our best players" from the team in bangladesh. Perhaps next time ...

@Mahir
Our real run machine wasn't present in the squad "Noor Ali"
Shahdzad the wicket keeper is an amazing batsman too, it just hasn't been his tournament.

@Rabz
Right now bro I'm very sad/angry, we lost to the second team of Bangladesh, I know our boys are a lot better than this. Also the umpire should have given the LBW just before the two sixes.

but when the disappointment is gone, I'm proud, we are not that good at T20, much better at the longer versions 3-5days. Just 2 years ago we were ranked 138th in the world. we don't have any ground at home, yet have very talented youth players who can make it big. esp. our fast bowlers should become some of the best in the world soon inshallah with proper training. (we have an U-19 player who can bowl at 145-147 km/h

BTW guys, for those of you who may want to keep an eye with Afghanistan's progress, keep following them on this site http://afgcric.com

Well it is cricket which actually brought us the first Gold in any major Games other than the Commonwealth Games.
In fact we won Gold in all the three Games which had cricket in it- Indo-Bangla Games 2010, SA Games 2010, Asian Games 2010.

Can anyone post video link to the 19th over or last few overs of Bangladesh batting and the gold medal ceremony with national anthem?

It's always nice to win a medal, but we shouldn't get too carried away here.

The fact is we sent a comparatively strong side to the Asian Games (only afghanistan had a side more closely resembling it's 1st choice players) and we came pretty close to losing to afghanistan.

we have a long way to go before we can seriously challenge the big names in T20 cricket...

He did bring home the gold, but I am really upset because you are terming this as the pinnacle of his short career, Many of you here want to see Ash fail, then you will be happy. Heck, he is only 26 yrs old, he has given BD a few wins against big names,
Her is a good batsman, but he has a mental block, I recognize this, but I dont bash him ever.

Default Bangladesh get first-ever Asian Games gold

Bangladesh's cricketers won their country its first-ever gold medal in the Asian Games by beating Afghanistan in a thrilling final in Guangzhou. In a see-saw match that attracted a crowd of 2000, 19-year-old Shabbir Rahman smashed two sixes in the penultimate over to decisively swing the match Bangladesh's way and dash Afghan hopes of a gold.

A day after upsetting fancied Pakistan in the semi-finals, Afghanistan looked set for a hammering when they slid to 66 for 6 in the 13th over on choosing to bat. Youngsters Asghar Stanikzai (38*) and Shabir Noori (25) then gave Afghanistan's chances a boost with a stabilising stand that left Bangladesh needing 120 for victory.

Bangladesh almost made a mess of what should have been a straightforward chase, losing five wickets, including that of their experienced captain Mohammad Ashraful, for 75. Afghanistan were scenting another famous win but were denied by the pair of allrounder Naeem Islam, who is looking to secure a permanent spot in the Bangladesh side, and Rahman, a legspinner who was part of the squad for this year's Under-19 World Cup in New Zealand. With 19 needed off the final two overs, Bangladesh were the underdogs but they clubbed 17 runs of the 19th over from offspinner Karim Sadiq, who had excellent figures of 2-0-10-2 before that, to transform the game.

"I had a good talk with Naeem before the 19th over and we went for it," Shabbir said. "Luckily, it came good. There was no pressure on me, but I am sure my team-mates in the dressing room were tense."

Ashraful admitted he had given up hope towards the end. "I was feeling a bit low but then Shabbir came and did the job for us," he said. "There was a bit of pressure because Afghanistan are a very good side and this was our first major final."

Cricket has been Bangladesh's most productive sporting discipline at the Asian Games so far - besides the men's gold, they have won silver in the women's competition. They have only one other medal in the Asian Games so far, a bronze in kabaddi.

Pretty disappointed that Ash actually gave up hope. Just shows exactly why he hasn't lived up to expectations. He's way too low in confidence. Come on Ash!! Have some confidence in yourself and your team!!

I am really surprised and happy to see the progress Afganistan has made over the last few years. I wish your team all the best from the bottom of my heart. Dont get me wrong my fellow BC members but if they had beaten us today I would have been very happy for Afganistan (it does not mean that I wouldn't have been saddened for BD's loss). They have been in a meaningless war for so long and they definitely deserve a smile on their face. But please smack the crap out of Latif.
