I am using my one and half year old Asus 15 inch laptop, Core i3 , it's nice looking and brown, it's not noisy & doesn't get heated but it's kind a heavy.

Thinkpad T400. Using it since 2008/9. Still works perfect. Had to replace the hard drive once.
Thinking of buying another thinkpad at the end of the year.
Nothing can beat lenovo thinkpads.

I got an iPod touch and a iPhone 4 and loved both. Never got into the Macbook or iPad hype. To me there are like Sachin Tendulkar...pretty as heck on display in the store but ultimately overhyped out the wazoo when you get the same or better performance from far cheaper PCs or androids.
I recently bought a Google nexus 7 tablet and love the heck out of it. If only it had USB ports and some way to connect to a TV via HDMI. Android >>> Apple and mostly because of the price.

Gave up on laptops. Underpowered and a pain for my uses. (I'm also quite poor right now). And macs are overpriced.
So I made a new desktop and put OSX in it last week. Loving the POWER!! Pics:
Intel Core i5-4670k (factory unlocked for overclocking)
Gigabyte Z87-HD3 Mobo (to overclock with, and also OSX compatible)
MSI GTX650Ti Power Edition (I play a lot of flight sim on my big TV)
Kingston HyperX Fury 1600MHz 8GB DDR3 RAM single stick
CoolerMaster Hyper 212 Evo cooling (mainly for when I decide to overclock)
Cougar Archon 5MM5 mid tower ATX case with Cougar SL500 500W PSU
...and two 120mm CoolerMaster 2000rpm case fans.
I have 3 hard disks from 3 previous laptops from the past 7 years that have died one by one... so I'm all psyched for my FSX/OSX+Adobe CS6/HTPC rig that I have now.
As for laptop I share my missus' HP Pavilion G6-2103AX laptop for emails, word and excel.

Finally got rid of my retina MacBook Pro 2013. It was a very good laptop, and I really liked OS X, as it is UNIX based, so I didn't have to dual boot it with Linux. I am starting my 2nd year of computer scinece minor (2nd major), and I have noticed that most people usually use OS X or a Linux distributions.
The display was fantastic on the Mac, and the very few of the Windows OEM laptops are as aesthetically pleasing and premium as MacBooks.
The main reason I sold it was for the non-upgradable RAM. I bought is back in 2013, and barely managed to scrape enough money to buy the most basic model of the MBP. I realise that these days 4gigs of RAM won't get you anywhere beyond just some very basic use, like viewing and editing documents or just web browsing. But moderate gaming, video/ photo editing really pushes the memory to the limits. It's still a great device on it's own, the main reason I am changing it is because I want a portable laptop I can play some of the latest games on, as I can't build my own PC, as I am outside of home most of the time.
So I went ahead and ordered the Dell Inspiron 15 7000 (model 7559), a budget gaming laptop with decent specs:
Quote:
6th Generation Intel Core i5-6300HQ Quad Core
8GB Single Channel DDR3L 1600MHz (upgradable to 16 GB)
GeForce GTX 960M 4GB GDDR5 discrete memory
1TB 5400 rpm SATA Hybrid Hard Drive [Pretty lame, I know :/ like the latest sports car with a mower engine] but luckily can add SSD storage as it has an M.2 slot, so I can just boot the OS from there.
15.6-inch FHD (1920 x 1080) Anti-Glare LED-Backlit
keyboard with backlight
Intel wireless AC and BT4.0
2.59Kg
|
I ordered it as it was selling 30% off on the EOFY sale from Dell here in Aus. What's lame is I ordered it 3 days ago, paid via PayPal and it is telling me my estimated date of delivery is 29/06.
This would definitely outperform my Mac in all areas apart from the touchpad (extremely crap in the Dell), keyboard (less key travel = slower typing), display (duh) and the design. The MBP just decimates the Dell Inspiron in these comparisons.
I am going to miss OS X, probably going to have to dual boot with Windows and Linux Mint now.... I hope I made the right choice. I would have kept the Mac if only I could upgrade it, but I can't. The RAM is soldered to the logic board. One serious disadvantage of all MacBooks post 2013. The Australian dollar has gone down in value, so Macs are now really expensive here. I only had to add $150 to the amount I got from selling my 1 year used MacBook to get this new laptop.
Really hoping I won't regret buying this. It has received a lot of positive reviews in general. Would appreciate any suggestions...
