Windies Tour of New Zealand: November to December 2017

Fixtures haven't been released yet. Windies are curently in Australia playing a practice game...kinda like the same Bangladesh did before making their way to New Zealand last year.

So in this practice match, Shimron Hetmyer made a cracking at more than run-a-ball century.

In the first warm-up match of the camp prior to the New Zealand series later this month, Powell got the innings off to a pleasant start with a knock that included seven fours and two sixes and came from 87 deliveries.

He put on 111 with Brathwaite who was patient in contrast, requiring 104 balls for his innings and striking fours and two sixes.

However, it was the arrival of Hetmyer at number three which livened up the game as the former Young West Indies captain got stuck into Northern’s bowling, belting 12 fours and eight sixes in an entertaining knock.

Hetmtyer made his Test debut against Pakistan earlier this year, playing three Tests with little success. He subsequently lost his place in the team for the tours of England and Zimbabwe though remaining in the touring party.

He gave tour selectors a reminder of his immense talent on the tour of England when he smashed an unbeaten 128 off 120 balls in a drawn two-day tour match against Leicestershire last September.

When Hetmyer retired on Wednesday, Holder stroked five fours and a six in a 56-ball knock and Raymon Reifer, an unbeaten 20 off 73 balls, as West Indies ended strongly.

The Caribbean side arrived here last weekend for a preparation camp ahead of the two-Test tour of New Zealand starting month end.

8 sixes in that innings. How big was that ground? Do you know about the ground where they are playing?

This kid reminds me a little of the Prince BC Lara, with his mannerism.
I happened to play with his brother when we represented our county in Under-15 cricket. Shimron used to be at some matches, like any ardent fan and student of the game. The club he plays for is called Young Warriors, not too far from my local club, Albion, home of Devendra Bishoo

The last time West Indies faced New Zealand in a Test, in June 2014, Jason Holder made his debut and was part of a team that suffered a series defeat at home. Three years later, Holder faces New Zealand as the captain of young side that has defended 189 against India in an ODI, hunted down 322 in the Leeds Test after suffering an innings-and-209-run defeat at Trent Bridge, and sealed a 1-0 Test series win over a full-strength Zimbabwe team in 2017.

He believes West Indies are in a "pretty good place" with the present team and heading in the "right direction". From fearing for his international career, Kemar Roach has fit in as the leader of the attack, which includes Shannon Gabriel, Alzarri Joseph, and Miguel Cummins. Contrastingly, New Zealand are in a not-so-good place. For starters, they haven't played Test cricket since March, while West Indies have played eight Tests since. They will also have to cope without the injured BJ Watling and Tim Southee, who is on paternity leave.
