Default Bangladesh, the number eight in the ranking before the WC - 06.02.11

I had been waiting for this day. Today the last match between SL and WI can determine Bangladesh's fate for becoming the number eighth team in the ICC ranking. We are still number 9th, behind WI by less than a point but today's match could change all that. Ofcourse WI can win the match today which means we will have to wait until the WC till we can move up to the next level.

Fingers crossed. Can't really say good luck Bangladesh but good luck Sri Lanka

Ranking at present before SL v WI match...

Are u sure? One match was abandoned due to rain. Do you think we still have chance to be at number 8 before going to WC.

If they (WI) looses todays match will they loose 2 points? Or are we going to be tied with them? Sorry I have no clue on how the point system works.

I was planning to post this and was looking for old thread.

YES, I can confirm if WI loose today, then they'll be #9 and BD wil be #8

Though both teams will have 66 rating point, but BD will be ahead in decimal.

Here is my calculation to the Decimal points

BD : 2121/32 = 66.28125
WI : 1321/20 = 66.05

but this will only happen if WI loose to SL today, If WI manage to win today then they will have 71 rating point (67+4)

Come on Srilanka, don't forget that you are playing on your own backyard .

I am wondering if we'll have a celebration thread today? we are on the verge of becoming number #8 team first time in the history. Each step is a milestone upto number 1.

At the moment the game started, SL 24/0 after 3 overs, which is 8 runs per over.

But Murali is not playing today.

^^ No and No. We were #8 at one point, a while back. And this is nothing to celebrate about. We can do better. Way better.

"Lets celebrate, we are now ranked #8!" - will just make us look bad.

At the moment we are #9 (rating 66) , WI #8 (Rating 67)

If they loose to SL today, then they too will have 66 rating but we will be above them considering decimal points.

O really! we were #8 a while back ? I think many people including the sports journalist have this misunderstanding.

The day we won the last ODI against NZ we had total 67 and WI also had 67 rating points. Many people thought we jointly became #8. But according to ICC we were still behind WI in decimal points.

We had chance to overcome those decimal points by winning all matches against Zim, but unfortunately that didn't happen because we lost first match against Zim and loose imp rating points.

If you ask ICC what was Bangladesh best ranking in ODI so far, they will tell you it's #9. We were behind them in decimal, and two teams ranking can't be equal if the decimals are different.

Today we have the real chance to become #8 for the first time in history.

Let's not forget the opposite side of the calculation. If WI win, they will gain 4 points, thus will stand with 71 points!

Thanks for reminding about this ranking thing RONY_UK! Hopefully, we are gonna go to the WC as the No.8 Team Inshallah

Btw.....it has been raining non-stop in Srilanka over the last three months or so.......I wonder how the crucial WC matches will take place in such conditions :S:S

Don't really like this type of celebrations. If we want to move up to no.8, we have to do it by winning matches not by the failures of others.

Yes, that's a better reason for celebrating. No pleasure in going up like this. We have to prove in WC beating WI, that we are better than them.

Default Bangladesh now number 8th in ODI ranking

Congrats Tigers to take Bangladesh in number 8th in ODI ranking.
Now be the number 5th in two years as our captain said after Banglawashed the Kiwis.

I know Ice Man will take us there...soon

Some will say (and I know it!) it's NOT Tigers' credit rather the WIs' loss to Sri Lanka and I won't buy it - remember the Banglawash? And so on lately....

So, please no "kid's logic" ....

It is to our credit that we reached a score such that WI fell below us. Suppose the remaining 7 fall below us - our credit that we didn't. That is why rankings exist. We are 8 and we are today > WI in ODIs.

So, being at #8 now, will there be any changes in WC knock out schedule (considering we go through QF)?
