Default Joshi and Jonty are all set to join in Team BD

This is a good approach by BCB. But not sure how Sunil Joshi will add value . We have to wait and see!

No way, Jonty?!?! Damn, that is a great catch by BCB. Kinda sucks its only as a consultant, but it beats having a full-time Halsall.

Can any of our resident Indian posters shed some knowledge/opinion on Joshi as a spin coach?

Wait the Jhonty Rhodes? The best fielder of his era? If it's a short stint then it's useless. It has to be a contract for a year atleast.

u guys are getting excited by big names and going meh about the not so big name... One word... WALSH!

At this point, anyone with decent understanding of spin will improve our spinners....

For fielding, well I wish we had Julian Fountain back... that guy really improved our fielding back then. But Jonty is the worlds great fielder ever so thats something. It will be usefull if he can really spend some time working with players individually and as a unit. Short 1-2 week stints aint gonna do anything to our babies

^ Yeh, except Rhodes has coaching credentials from coaching the SA team to even an IPL team and also Pak team, hardly comparable to Walsh and a definite upgrade to the joddu moddu Halsall.

Not writing off Joshi though, he's been coaching in Indian domestics from what I know so interested to hear what our Indian posters here think of him

Joshi is not a "name" coach, but is considered effective. Kumble recommended him - that's worth a LOT.

As a head coach of Ranji Trophy sides for 3 seasons, i bet he ll be able to relate a lot better with our players than a big brand name like Courtney Walsh.

Not like BCB has too many options either. They cant afford Saqlain Mushtaq. Venkathypathy Raju understood our problem, but i reckon Joshi is much more experienced. BCB had also targeted SL based Piyal Wijetunge, who is more of a grassroot level coach.

Indian coaches imo are very underrated. Hopefully Joshi will be able to impart a lot of wisdom to our guys. And lets also hope BCB doesnt start thinking they will get impact from some coaches in 2 weeks stints.

I never thought Walsh would be a good fit for our bowlers. Both Ambrose and Walsh were gigantic and used their pace-bounce most often, rather swing bowling. I would rather bring someone who can teach seem control, natural/reverse swing and line/length. Someone like Pollock, Akram, McGrath...

If BCB is bringing Jonty for short time, it may not have any impact. I wonder how he is going to make Mullah dive in the air just to stop a ball. We need to make the basics right first in fielding: no regulation catch drops, fixed slip positions with proper technique+fielder, run out throw (1 drop and the bowler stays back of the wicket). Do we really need Jonty (probably the best fielder ever) to do so?

I've nothing to say for Joshi. I hope he is a better coach than a bowler he was.

You cam get Jonty or Inzy, if the boys dont improve their fitness and concenration it won't matter. Putting wrong men or no men at slips is the problem. Virat put 4 men around our top order for Ash and Jaddu...Miraz edges are helped to the boundary by Shakib.

Absolutely gold news of jhonty roades.
Not sure silver news of joshi.
Bd should've find someone from srilanka... like murali or other better coaches out there.
But hopefully joshi do something, it might change the plot of bd's spin attack.

That is a very good point, and one I indeed did not consider.

However, Walsh is NOT to bowling what Jonty is to fielding. If bowlers bowl terribly, no one really looks to C. Walsh for answers. But if there is a misfield, all eyes will be on J. Rhodes. It won't be just our pride at stake, but Jonty's as well.

a test playing tendulkar was not too good to learn from achrekar. sehwag & dravid werent too good to learn from their club coaches even after they were well into their international career.
kohli, pujara, rahane et al do not think they are too big to learn from sanjay bangar, an indifferent international player at best.

but apparently shakib is too good to learn from an experienced coach who was also a decent international player in his time.

BCB is such emotionally connected bunch of admins/directors etc.

Just because Halsall came in support of Bangladesh when the Dhaka incident took place...
they don't want to get rid of him, even though his been terrible..

Anyways good luck to Jonty and Joshy..

I am not sold to the idea that Joshi would be good just because he was recommended by kumble. Mohsin Kamal and Trevor Chapels were recommended by some greats as well.

Regardless, I am not expecting much of an impact on the team from the new coaches/consultants. They will be here for short stints.
BCB should think well before employing full time coaches rather than always chasing new coaches for short term assignments once they realise the permanent sign ups were not that good.
