Default "Can we still qualify?" thread

Come one ... someone will be opening it at some point sometimes next week. If (when?) we lose against the Afghans, we will have to work out all possible permutation and calculation and possibility not only to win against Nepal and Hong Kong but also how Nepal and HK could do us a favour and beat Afghanistan.

Issuing passports takes time, perhaps its a good idea to start requesting the Nepalese and HK authorities to give some of our A Class cricketers their nationalities. Although, it is quite possible that we crumble against the Nepalese and Hong Kong, THEN we will have to think harder!

It depends on how many buddies he can manage to squeeze in the team. You know too many deadwood will eventually sink the boat, doesn't matter who ever you play.. the threadhold chances but eventiualy the boat will sink if you continue to dump too many dead wood in the boat.

The other dependend factor is: it depend if the opponent plays by our captain's pre packaged script or not.

I have a bad feeling about our chances. What if we beat afghan but we end up not qualifying because of a poor run rate? what if?

I'm hearing stuff like Nepal has a good batting line up... so even with beating AFG, we might undermine Nepal or Hong Kong

I think the thing that has to be on their minds is to win one game at a time. By doing this they can somehow find themselves in the final.

When it comes to our team, lightening can strike 7 times...

Good point about run rate though. The trouble is all these small team prepare themselves so that they can at least beat us by studying each and every single of us and they succeed every time there is a global event. Ireland is a perfect example and they are not a small team anymore. I am scared of all three matches

yes we beat them, but they still surpassed us with the net run rate and we never made it to the second round.

If Bangladesh qualify to play with tops,, it will be a surprise. If we can beat Afghanistan it will be a big surprise to me. Genetically, we collapse in a pressure situation. It will happen this time as well . But somehow if we can manage to beat Afghanistan, then there will be no more pressure on us and we will be big scare for top teams. Allah please help us.

I would say it is 50-50 at the moment.
Things going against us:
1. We have certified match losers like Razzak, Ryad and Farhad Reza
2. We do not have any firepower in the tail something that Zia could have brought against the minnows.
3. Nasir is hopelessly out of form but he thinks he is doing fine. Even after getting four chances against Afghan bowling and still getting out. Gazi is out of form as well
4. Mash is past his prime
5. Tamim is not suitable for T-20 but will get slotted in despite being out of action for awhile
6. Clueless captain

Positives
1. Shakib is back
2. Shabbir is there in the lower order

Why so cynical? Yeah, we've had a rough few months but the World Cup is here! Yeah, it's Twenty20 (a format I still don't particularly like) but it's still the biggest world stage and it's at home. I have faith that our boys will come out firing and breeze through this "Qualification" round.

According to BC people, he is a big hitter and is a very strong lower-order candidate. His game in 2nd T20 against SL wasnt that bad though. Given we were under tremendous pressure, we played a slow innings and took us past 100.

But in BPL, he had some good performances.

I actually disagree on this. Today's Prothom Alo quoted Nasir saying "something is actually wrong with me".

We need hope that this realization pays off in the WC.

A rough few months is an understatement. We have suffered losses in all the games this year. We lost to Afghanistan comprehensively in a 50 over contest at home.

So there is plenty to worry about regarding the shortest format where the situation could become even more unpredictable. This is not going to be like a bilateral series where if we lose the first game we can still comeback and win the series. We have to win all the games because only one team goes through from our group. There are no prizes for being second best and there is no scope for mistakes. Can we be this clinical in all the matches? I hope so! but our form and confidence is a major worry nonetheless.

I just saw a picture of Phorhad Reza training with the lot in today's Daily Star. So my answer is NO!

Also Razzak and Nasir's press response doesn't make me feel good about the dressing room atmosphere.
