নির্বাচনী প্রচারণায় বিজেপি যতবার বলেছে ‘কংগ্রেস একটা মুসলমানবান্ধব দল’, কংগ্রেসের বুড়ো বুড়ো নেতারা রাহুলকে ততবারই মন্দিরে মন্দিরে নিয়ে গেছেন সেই অপবাদ ঘোচাতে। কখনোই রাহুল বলে ওঠেননি, হ্যাঁ কংগ্রেস হিন্দুদের মতোই মুসলমান-খ্রিষ্টানদেরও ভারতের জন্য গুরুত্বপূর্ণ মনে করে। বিজেপি যখন ‘ভারতীয় জাতীয়তা’কে ‘হিন্দু জাতীয়তা’ হিসেবে প্রতিষ্ঠা করতে তৎপর, কংগ্রেসের তরফ থেকে তার পাল্টা শক্ত জবাব কমই দেওয়া হয় আজকাল।

পরিবারতন্ত্রের শেষ প্রজন্ম সোনিয়া এবং তাঁর দুই পুত্র-কন্যা খুব কমই গান্ধী ও নেহরুর মূল্যবোধকে শক্তভাবে আঁকড়ে ধরেছেন। বরং নির্বাচনে কংগ্রেস নেতৃত্ব মোদি-অমিত শাহ জুটিকে অনুসরণ করতে চেয়েছে। এভাবেই আরএসএস সফল। কারণ, তারা কেবল কংগ্রেসকেই হত্যা করতে চাইছে না, ভারতে ও দক্ষিণ এশিয়ায় উদারনৈতিক চিন্তারও কবর রচনা করতে চাইছে। আপাতত কংগ্রেসবান্ধবরা অনেকে সেই পরিকল্পনায় পা দিয়েই মনে করছেন, কংগ্রেসের উচিত গান্ধী পরিবারের বাইরের কাউকে দলটির সভাপতি করা, যাতে নেহরু ও গান্ধীর ‘দায়’ থেকে কংগ্রেসকে ‘রক্ষা’ করা যায়।

কংগ্রেস কি নিজের বিরুদ্ধে যাবে?

নির্বাচনে বারংবার পরাজয় কংগ্রেসের সামনে দুটি বিকল্প তৈরি করেছে: পুরোনো আদর্শবাদী রাজনীতিকে অধিক বিশ্বাস নিয়ে আঁকড়ে ধরা অথবা বিজেপির মতো করে যেকোনো মূল্যে ক্ষমতায় যাওয়া। রাজ্যে রাজ্যে প্রভাবশালী কংগ্রেস নেতারা দ্বিতীয় বিকল্পে আগ্রহী। যদিও কংগ্রেসের সংকটটা যতটা ব্যক্তিনির্ভর, তার চেয়ে বেশি আদর্শগত।

Britain finally got their DJT

ELEVATING a singularly unprincipled liar and prodigious philanderer to the highest political office in the land is hardly a novelty nowadays. If anything, Britain has been somewhat late in coming to the party. But a nation seemingly bent on inflicting self-harm could hardly have done better.

Barring divine intervention, Boris Johnson will today take over as prime minister from Theresa May. The fact that this blustering buffoon was picked for the post by less than one per cent of the electorate is par for the course under the Westminster model of ‘democracy’. What should provide far greater cause for alarm is how unrepresentative this segment of the population — overwhelmingly white, rich, male and mostly past middle age — is of the wider British population.

আসলে পোলিশ, ব্রিটিশ ও আমেরিকান ভোটাররা নৈতিকভাবে দেউলিয়া হয়ে যাওয়া নেতাদের জিতিয়ে দিয়ে এমন একটি অবস্থা তৈরি করেছেন, যা জার্মান দার্শনিক পিটার স্লোটারডিকের কথা মনে করিয়ে দেবে। বর্তমানে যে অবস্থা চলছে, আশির দশকে তার পূর্বাভাস দিয়ে এই দার্শনিক বলেছিলেন ‘হতাশাজনিত কারণ’ই এর প্রধান অনুঘটক হবে। স্লোটারডিক বলেছিলেন, সাংস্কৃতিক অগ্রগতির বিশদ প্রচার কমে যাওয়ার সুযোগে এ অবস্থার সৃষ্টি হবে। আজকের দিনে দেখা যাচ্ছে পশ্চিমা অভিজাত সমাজ আলোকিত হওয়ার শিক্ষা আত্মস্থ করলেও সেই শিক্ষা তাঁরা সবার জন্য মঙ্গলজনক ইস্যুতে ব্যবহার না করে সংকীর্ণ ব্যক্তিস্বার্থের ক্ষেত্রে ব্যবহার করেছে। দাসত্ব, দারিদ্র্য এবং বৈষম্যের মতো বিষয়কে তাঁরা সমস্যা হিসেবে স্বীকার করেছেন ঠিকই কিন্তু সেই সমস্যার সমাধানে দৃঢ়প্রতিজ্ঞবদ্ধ হতে পারেননি।

আমরা বৈষম্য দূর করার হাজারো পথ আবিষ্কার করেছি কিন্তু বাস্তবতা হলো, বৈষম্য আগের মতোই আছে এবং তা বাড়ছে। গণতান্ত্রিক দেশগুলো দারিদ্র্যের বিরুদ্ধে লড়াইয়ে যতটা কার্যকর ভূমিকা রাখতে পারছে, তার চেয়ে ভূমিকা রাখছে রাশিয়া ও চীনের মতো কর্তৃত্ববাদী দেশগুলো। এসব দেখে গণতান্ত্রিক দেশগুলোর ভোটারদের মধ্যে হতাশা তৈরি হওয়া স্বাভাবিক। যখন তাঁরা দেখেন অগণতান্ত্রিক দেশের সরকারগুলো নিজেদের নাগরিকদের জীবন–জীবিকার উন্নতির দিকে বেশি মনোযোগী, তখন তাঁরা হতাশ হন। সেই হতাশা তাঁদের রক্ষণশীলতার দিকে ঠেলে দেয়। আর সেই সুযোগকেই কাজে লাগান ট্রাম্প, বরিস জনসন বা ভিক্তর অরবানের মতো নেতারা।

তাঁরা একধরনের গোষ্ঠীবদ্ধতার চেতনা জাগিয়ে তোলেন। বিভিন্ন জনতুষ্টিবাদী ইস্যুতে তাঁরা গোষ্ঠীবদ্ধ হয়ে পড়েন। সামাজিক যোগাযোগমাধ্যমে নিজেদের মতাদর্শ প্রচার করতে থাকেন। আগে আমাদের নিজেদের ভালো থাকা নিশ্চিত করতে হবে, পরে অন্যদের কথা ভাবা যেতে পারে—এই নীতি যখন হতাশাগ্রস্ত ভোটারদের কাছে নিয়ে যাওয়া হয়, তখন দ্রুত তাঁরা তা গ্রহণ করে ফেলেন। ফলে এসব জনতুষ্টিবাদী নেতারা দুর্নীতিগ্রস্ত জানার পরও ভোটাররা নিজেদের গোষ্ঠীস্বার্থের কথা ভেবে তাঁদের ভোট দেন।

ইউরোপে পরিবেশবাদী ও জনতুষ্টিবাদীরা এমনভাবে বিভক্ত হয়ে গেছে যে এক পক্ষ অপর পক্ষের কোনো যুক্তি শুনতে রাজি নয়। সেখানে কার্যত রাজনৈতিক দলগুলো এখন আর ভোটারদের প্রতিনিধিত্ব করছে না বরং ভোটাররাই দলগুলোর প্রতিনিধিত্ব করছে। ফ্রান্সের সাম্প্রতিক ‘ইয়েলো ভেস্ট প্রোটেস্ট’-এর সময় এমনটিই দেখা গেছে। নানা দাবিতে জনতা রাজপথে নেমে আসার পর তাদের মন জয়ে সব দলই উঠেপড়ে লেগেছে।

ট্রাম্পের প্রেসিডেন্ট হওয়া, যুক্তরাজ্যে ব্রেক্সিট ভোটের ঘটনা এবং ল অ্যান্ড জাস্টিস পার্টি ও ভিক্তর ওরবানের উত্থান প্রগতির প্রতি মানুষের অনাস্থা বাড়ার সবচেয়ে বড় প্রমাণ। পূর্ব ইউরোপে দীর্ঘদিন ধরে প্রগতির সমার্থক হিসেবে সমাজতন্ত্র থেকে পুঁজিবাদে উত্তরণকে বোঝানো হতো। কিন্তু সেখানে পুঁজিবাদ প্রতিষ্ঠার পরও জনগণের ভাগ্য ফেরেনি। ফলে ওরবানের মতো নেতারা জনগণকে বোঝাতে সক্ষম হন যে, একমাত্র রক্ষণশীলতার মাধ্যমেই ভোটারদের স্বার্থ সংরক্ষণ করা সম্ভব। ভোটাররা যেহেতু গণতন্ত্রমনা নেতাদের নিয়ে হতাশ, সেহেতু তাঁরা সব জেনেও ট্রাম্পকেই বেছে নিতে চান।

This is an issue Congress can use to strongly resist BJP and rebuild itself as a party in the process. But they won't. They have been silent about this issue. Because they are not a left wing party. Something doesn't add up in Abrar case. And it bugs me to no end that I can't figure out what it is. But it seems like a grander conspiracy is afoot.

How calm those guys were in the hall footages, both before during and after the incident.

But those guys were AL guys, so why would they do something that could jeopardize AL's ambitions of ruling as a one party state forever (ala CPC in china). UNLESS, it is something AL wants. After all, Hasina did authorize the casino busts.

So first AL used the pro liberation movement to clamp down on some actual criminals but also their political opponents, and now they are trying to foster an movement to clamp down on.....who?

I am trying to figure it out. AL will use anyone to serve their needs. Please help me. I feel really bad for Abrar,bless his soul, but can't help think this is part of some much much bigger machination, which makes his passing even more sad. To be used like this.

The political situation has reached a point where expressing any dissenting voice is a crime (read this) - and even killing is justified. This is applicable for all parties. However, it has reached an extreme point within AL because this is AL's third continuous term, and from top to bottom, leaders act with impunity because there is no accountability.

BTW, considering your political standing/affiliation, it is not surprising that you are smelling conspiracy here. Do you suspect ষড়যন্ত্র/অনুপ্রবেশকারী?

You need to understand how political goons work in our country. They kill anyone anywhere and some bodies end up being discovered, some are never found.

I think AL top brass has seen that the juniors have become cocky and beyaddob, they are no longer respecting the top brass like they used to as they have become rich and powerful. To re-establish the chain of command and re-assert absolute loyalty, AL is now cleaning house. More to come.

Yes, I know all that. That's rather obvious isn't it, everything you stated.

I was discussing the details of THIS case. Because I am curious. If those students were set up or not. Because AL needed an excuse to get rid of some internal threats, and seeing that people began to use Islam as an stalwart against them, they needed to find a way to jump on the bandwagon. It is very sinister, IF true. And I don't know, but it seems like strings are being pulled from a very high level.

Looks like Justin Trudeau will get another term.

Many analysts thought he was shaky this election, but I always felt confident that he will win. Not because he is a great politician. He is a neoliberal centrist who also does not have soaring rhetoric/speaking skills. But he has the looks. Admit it or deny it, good look/pretty face helps in life and in politics. Not always, but majority of the times.
