I don't think the umpires understand cricket. It is said that you should not raise the finger unless you are sure it is going to hit the stumps.

Even by the trajectory of the ball, it was CLEARLY missing the the 2nd off stump and there was a mammoth inside edge.

Umpires in BPL have raised the finger on such occassions, even in 50-50 decisions it goes the the favor of the bowlers and heck, even when the bowler doesn't appeal because he feels that it DEFINITELY NOT OUT the umpire raises the finger.
