CA returns to residence in good health
UNB, Dhaka
Chief Adviser (CA) Fakhruddin Ahmed returned to his residence from Combined Military Hospital (CMH) in Dhaka in good health this afternoon, after a speedy recovery from his sudden indisposition.“I am completely well. Thank you all for coming here. Pray for me,” a smiling Fakhruddin told waiting newsmen just before getting into his car at the CMH at about 5:00pm to go home.
Chief adviser's Press Secretary Syed Fahim Munaim told the press that Dr Fakhruddin would hopefully attend his office tomorrow.
At the CMH, necessary medical check-ups were done. The check-up reports were found normal. The chief adviser took his lunch and some rest there before leaving for residence.
Earlier this morning, the head of caretaker government suddenly fell sick while addressing the inaugural function of the National Tree Plantation Movement and Tree Fair 2007 at Tangail District Sadar ground.
He was immediately taken to Tangail district Sadar Hospital where he was given first aid.
Later, the chief adviser was brought to the CMH, Dhaka.
Dr Fakhruddin became sick during delivering a lengthy speech, as it was excessive hot today, according to the Chief Adviser’s Office.
Law Adviser Mainul Hosein, Communications Adviser Maj Gen (retd) MA Matin and Power Adviser Tapan Chowdhury went to the CMH to see the chief adviser in the afternoon.
Fakhruddin was accompanied by his wife Neena Ahmed.

My mom mentioend a couple of days ago that the temperature in Dhaka was 38/39 that day. With all that humidity and this temperature, it's probably just insane. Add to that all the traffic jam and all that polluted air.
Good to know that CA's doing good.
And boss, it's good to see this as a sticky. We should all post all the breaking news here. There are a couple of other threads related to this also. I propose that they get merged with this one too.

Thanks, Z! A timely changed title.
As a starter of this thread I was keenly following the posts and bemused to see its hugely acceptability by the members. After almost 5 months till the first post was dated, the frequent ups and downs of BD politics has still been making this thread contemporary.

Did any of the Australian based posters watch the 7:30 report on the ABC?
This was the synopsis of tonight's report:
Torture Claims
When the army took control of Bangladesh and imposed emergency rule in January this year, the Australian Government offered tacit support for what was a coup in all but name. Now the United Nations has accused the country's armed forces of using murder as a means of law enforcement. And an investigation by the ABC has uncovered evidence that soldiers are engaged in mass arrests, illegal detention, torture and murder. The horrific revelations come as the Foreign Minister Alexander Downer prepares next week, to unveil a 33 per cent increase in foreign aid to Bangladesh. 7.30's Peter Llloyd has this exclusive report.
Horrendously one-sided reporting, lacking in hard substance but then I've got serious doubts about this regime as well.
Anyone watch it?

What is revolving chair treatment?
Is it as comfortable as the hot water treatment?

What was explained to me was... they rotate the chair at high speed for a long time before they start cooperating. But nothing closer to hot water treatment. It has no external physical effect (as it is pushed inside the body from behind), but internally it just makes you sick.
Again I have no way to validate these rumors. Thats why I am asking, if anyone heard these rumors from valid source or its just fake rumors.

Ok Mamun got verdict of one case against him. Light case and light verdict.
A Dhaka tribunal Thursday sentenced Giasuddin Al Mamun, a controversial businessman and Channel 1 managing director, to three years in jail in a case filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission. The case came after Mamun failed to submit his wealth statement by the deadline to the corruption watchdog. Judge Ashraful Hossain of the Special Tribunal-5 handed down the verdict at 11:30am. The tribunal so far ruled on four persons who had failed to submit proper wealth statements in time. Three of them are still at large. For the first time, the tribunal, set up to fast-track a rash of corruption cases against politicians and businessmen during the state of emergency, gave the verdict in the presence of a convict.

Mirza Azizul rolls out popular budget
http://bdnews24.com/details.php?cid=4&id=10862#tp10862
Is it possible to bring down some of the deficit by confiscating all the money from all the corrupt and criminal politicians, businessmen and so on and also make them and their family pay dues every month to govt. They sure have lots of businesses and interest earning accounts, and investments abroad generating huge amount of revenues.

Koko owns Dubai house under fictitious name
Hasina should quit politics
Quader 'tells' joint forces
Quote:
Awami League (AL) Joint General Secretary Obaidul Quader, now detained, is claimed to have said during interrogation that AL chief Sheikh Hasina should quit politics in the prevailing situation. Quader while being quizzed by the Task Force Intelligence (TFI) strongly criticised Hasina's taking party decisions unilaterally, sources claimed.
"Had she (Hasina) not returned home, senior AL leaders would have formed a committee to run the party. It is not true that the party cannot do without her," sources quoted Quader as saying.
Quader, known to be very close to Hasina, was also quoted to have said that in October last year she had suddenly announced the Dhaka siege programme urging party activists to march to Dhaka with oars and poles. Party leaders later criticised her decision.
He is now on a three-day remand for further investigation into his alleged anti-state activities. He was taken into custody on March 8, and court had ordered his detention under the Special Powers Act. No case was filed against him till date.
Sources also said that during interrogation, the AL leader also spoke about the recent unrest in garments sector, April 30 (2004) deadline to dislodge the then coalition government, killing of 12 people by setting a bus afire in front of Sheraton Hotel, violent agitation by Jubo Mohila League, donation collection and party nomination in polls for money.
Sonali and Tuhin of Jubo Mohila League had intentionally engaged in conflict and provoked the police to arrest them to have their photographs published in newspapers. The party chief herself had provoked the women activists to do so, Quader is claimed to have told the interrogators.
On the much-talked-about MiG 29 purchase, Quader said businessman Noor Ali, (who was involved in the deal) had paid a huge amount of money to Hasina (then prime minister). Her cousin Sheikh Helal used to take money from all contractors linked to different ministries, and the amount would be hundreds of crores of taka, sources said quoting Quader.
Quader also said that Abdul Awal Mintoo, (who was involved in the frigate purchase) had paid a huge sum to the AL president (then PM).
"The party chief (Hasina) used to take huge amount of money to give work order to set up small power plants. No deal was transparent. Prof Rafiq, Sheikh Helal, Sheikh Selim (her cousin) and Farukh Khan made all the deals. Netri (Hasina) took money in all the deals. General Nuruddin was removed from the cabinet as he did not pay her (in case of deals). Nuruddin is a very honest man. Netri (Hasina) is very much dishonest," sources further said quoting Quader.
Hasina has a lot of money in the US and those are in the name of her son and daughter. She owns a house in London and she used to stay in that house during her visits there, the detained AL leader is claimed to have said.
According to sources, Quader also talked about collection of funds for opposition movement during 2006-2007. He said, "Kazi Zafarullah (party leader) and Alauddin Nasim (Hasina's PS) looked after financial matters regarding the movement. Sometimes, Tofail Ahmed also collected funds for the agitation. Hasina herself accepted the money."
