zimfan, I think, other than Barney Rogers, last Zimbabwe ODI squad had better players than ones you listed here. Their return may make the domestic league more competitive, but don't think it will make any huge impact in the ODI team.

Definitely gonna strengthen your domestic structures, But I don't expect any reality shaking change in the near future. Good for the long run however.

zimfan, most of them are not well-known in the international circuit. They failed to make any real impression in their first appearance with the national side.

I see no worries for Bangladesh. We are still far more better than your team.

fantastic news...happy for you guys, zimfan!

i just wish taibu's ban was lifted, and above all the sean ervine came back. he's probably not good enough to play for england, but a damn good player nonetheless. england haven't been picking eoin morgan so ervine will be way down the depth chart...he should come back to zim.

will we see zim get test status back by january 2010???

still missing blignaut and sean ervine, those 2 would really make a huge impact if they cameback. the players returning may not make an immediate impact on the zim ODI team but a more competitive domestic season will undoubtedly lead to a stronger national team so in that regard zimbabwe are getting back on track and in a couple of years the zimbabwe team could actually be quite good.

i reckon a tri-series between BD, zim and NZ atm would be very very interesting.

sean is maybe not quite consistent enough yet to play for England, but he sure is quality and has the potential to be a 40+ average test batsman. i agree though, he should comeback to Zimbabwe but i don't think we'll see it for a while, i recken if he does comeback to Zimbabwe it will be after he's qualified for England

Isn't Zim's test hiatus self imposed?I was under the impression its their call when they want to return.

Can't wait to see how the scheduling works with ZIM back in the mix.

These names are hardly intimidating. We will crush them, again.

no point in coming back to zim if he's qualified for zim, unless it was merely to prove a point to someone or himself.

he should come back to zimbabwe period. i mean he has the shot to play every international and make a bigger name for himself than in england. IMO, its a tactical mistake by guys lke taibu and ervine to go to foreign countries and attempt to qualify. if one has the calibre of andy flower, yes, but ervine and taibu are no andy flowers.

this is akin to tapash baisya moving to calcutta or assam and trying his hand at qualifying for Indian national team. just not possible without a massive amount of skill/talent.

if he's qualified for england then there are 2 teams he can potentially get picked for which obviously gives a player a better chance of being picked for international cricket. as for talent and skill, tbh england needs some help in their batting department, a player like ervine could be very very handy but he will have to get his consistency and average up.

i don't think it's about making a bigger name, i'm sure the choice to try and qualify for england was a combination of zimbabwe losing test status as well as being frustrated with the general cricket situation (and maybe political situation as well) in zimbabwe. i mean even with test status some of the teams wouldn't have wanted to of gone to play in zimbabwe, on top of that players were having trouble with the zimbabwe cricket board e.g. blignaut saying he wouldn't play for zim until they paid him what they owed him. the situation was just bad for the players, especially young ones who had the talent to be quality international standard players.

having seen ervine play in the aussie domestic system i can comfortably say he has a good amount of talent and skill, he has the talent to be an above average test player he just needs the consistency.

if his goal is to play test cricket but zimbabwe re-gain test status after he's qualified for england i wouldn't be surprised at all if he cameback to zimbabwe because he's got a much better chance of making a zim test team than the england one.

dion ebrahim has comeback as well but i would think the returners who are most likely to have any sort of impact in the near future would be barney rogers, gregory strydom, and gavin ewing.

this is great for Zimbabwe cricket but how much match practice have these guys had recently at the top level? Thats my main concern as their full potential won't be on show n will show signs of rustiness as expected from a long absence..

Would have been good to get Blignaut and Ervine back..maybe this may trigger their return and also what happened to Anthony Ireland?

Would love it if Pomme Mbangwa came out of commentary for his bowling boots!

i think a few of them have played in various other domestic systems, certainly at least a couple have played in the english system, obviously none have played at the very top level i.e. international cricket. blignaut apparently is still in zimbabwe and plays local cricket on occassion, anothony ireland's county contract got renewed but the current policy to play for zim national team is to only have a zim passport (don't need to play in the domestic tournys) so this means that even thought players like ireland and ervine haven't returned to the zim domestic system that they are still eligible to play for the zimbabwe national team. however i believe ervine becomes eligible for england sometime next year, i don't think he'd just throw that away, whether that means he's not allowed to play for zim until then i'm not sure.

This is about Zim cricket only. I don't kow why it is alarming BD. We are at a stage where, we shouldn't have a problem playing the best playing 11 of Zim and hope to win 90% times.

Zim has launched a IPL style franchise system. Where the team owners are expected to invest a lot and all the players who were playing outside Zim are coming back. It's the money not BD. But hope this is also good for Zim cricket.
