Default Joe Root named England new Test captain

http://www.espncricinfo.com/england/...y/1082205.html

Good choice.

Root represents the new young England team and the new brand of cricket England play, very well.

Automatic choice after cook stepped down.

Now watch Cook dominate and becomes a beast again.

Cooks average with captaincy and without is the same, he will start to get in more performances in my opinion, but that's because he's now got a solid partner in hameed

Openers come in pairs a lot of the time, compare tamims average with and without kayes and am sure it'll show the same

Cooks has had to deal with too many collapses without another opening partner

The added pressure of captaincy was getting to him.

It's time he gets back to his stripes and pile on the runs. Hameed I hope be his partner until retirement.

England and Cook, groomed Root into the captaincy role past many years very well, now was the right time for him to take over. Infact I can't wait for Root to take over the captaincy for ODI team as well. But, the t20 captaincy should go to Butler or Stokes. I don't like Morgy as captain, he might have lead England to a change of brand of cricket but his results ain't anything great as captain.

Yh maybe but, but strictly based on statistics, his performance didn't drop... Stats ain't everything I know

I think he's done well as a captain, led by example on and off the field, dealt with peiterson well, he managed a transition period well also

Buttler looks to be being set up for the ODI and T20 captaincy when Morgan goes, although that could be for a while to come yet. I disagree, I think Morgan has been a pretty good captain and almost the ideal person you want leading the team through the transition it has recently gone through.
