Arrogant or Realist? Hasrha Bhogle sees no chance for Bangladesh to progress to Semi Final
Harsha Bhogle isn't even considering Bangladesh as a contender for the semi-final spot. I sometimes wonder whether these Indian commentators see Bangladesh as a minnow who cannot be considered as a force in world cricket. There is an argument that Bangladesh isn't strong enough to beat India, but we can make into the semis even if we lose to India and beat Pakistan.
Pretty annoyed.

What do you think ?
Stop daydreaming in cuckooland and be a realist. We have zero nada zilch chance of reaching the semis.
India will give us a thrashing and Amir will make mincemeat of our average batting. And, let's not forget that we are now ranked 7 while Pakistan is 4. They have defeated England and NZ while we lost to them.

Excellent take. This is something to consider.
But that NZ match would be ours had it not been for the Bogra fraudster.

Bhogle has been one of the top Indian supporters of Bangladesh cricket. I don't see anything wrong in his underlying assumption - India will beat both us and England, but England will manage to beat NZ. So, if we beat Pakistan, England will get through. Otherwise, Pakistan will get through.
No one outside our own fanbase is expecting us to win against India, and you should not be offended by it.

We have a bowler in our team with a tournament average of 279 and some people think we will reach the semis. Harsha is right, we don't stand a chance.

he is such a liability. He is literally cancelling out the advantage we are blessed with shakib to get an extra player in either batting or bowling.
No other team in their right mind would have this guy on board for a WC tournament. But this is Bangladesh - a country ppl love to abuse and extract from. Mashrafee is no different. And he created a hero persona. Ridiculous.
we could have tried different bowlers in that spot - clearly he is not delivering at all. poor fielder, zero batting, lethargic bowling. Good at motivational talk - but players wont get motivated once they realize their captain is the liability...

Yeah Harsha is not arrogant. From a neutral perspective nothing wrong with expecting England to win of the two remaining games.
I am looking forward to the India game. It will not be a one sided thrashing. It will be a very close game just like our previous encounter in Asia cup.

Harsha Bhogle is an idiot. Don't take him seriously. I still doubt he is an IIM Ahmedabad passout.

Arrogant or realist - Harsha's perception will not change the reality and our task at hand - play India and beat them.

This is not new and he isn't the only one who thinks like that , our team in general is looked down upon even when we play well these experts will try to find excuses to our wins like it was a one man show and Shakib is in form of his life that was never seen before, we were lucky , opposition had a bad day etc etc.Just look at McCullum and his predictions how much he underestimates BD team despite all the Banglawashes he received in his playing career.
That is why the team must do something extraordinary in this world cup that these people won't forget in a hurry and will be etched in their mind whenever they think of the Bangladesh cricket team. It is very much necessary, the players also understand this attitude towards BD team, in first match after beating South Africa Shakib had said we are here to prove something in this world cup.

The day our team can just play an ordinary/normal game and be able to beat top teams is the day crictics will respect us the way we want. Something extraordinary by definition won't happen every day and consequently won't change perception.
Even if we beat India it will be remembered as a one-off event similar to the 2005 cardif win. We need to be consistently good and deliver results over a period of time. We have started to do that and already opposition teams do not take us lightly anymore. But we need to do a lot better. One stumping miss or one run out chance miss or one bad no ball call should not end our chances. We need to be able to create more winning moments in the match and create more wicket taking opportunities so that one missed chance is not the end of it all.
Once we are able to do that, respect will come our way from the critics.

Something extraordinary in a world cup which is watched by millions will change perception , doing something good in bilaterals on the other hand will not change many mindsets as those are not followed by many.
We have beaten India , South Africa , Pakistan in the same year in bilaterals before and consistently made Asia cup finals beating Pakistan in the last two editions. What has that done to change perceptions ? Nobody outside Bangladesh seems to even remember those results. Even McCullum doesn't remember the consistent Banglawashes dished out in his playing career.
People won't remember such series , they will remember the thing that was amazing and beyond anything they have seen before. That is a start , then we can concentrate on doing well in bilaterals consistently to back our performances in world cup.

Arrogant or realist or not, we have our faith in our hand. Given India wins against England today and maybe even NZ just gets over the line against India, we will need to beat Pakistan and we make the semis, easy peazy.
Worry is beating India isn't easy and not expecting England to be beaten by this NZ side. Is it tough? Yes? But it should be tough because we are trying to qualify for the semis. Let us beat India and Pakistan and make it happen.

As an analyst/ commentator sometimes they give a “safe” opinion because ....
There is no downside to safe opinions being incorrect. Ask him personally, and he might have a different take. He follows BD cricket since ICC trophy days.
Unless the dude put money on it and says here is 1 crore bet on the final four, I wouldn’t take anyone’s opinion to heart.
(P.S. his audience is primarily Indian. Most Indians are not ready to accept BD as a semi finalist yet unless proven wrong. So it is upto our current team to make that statement)

Harsha has been a bd supporter and knows quite a lot about our cricket. His assumption isn't anything we haven't said. It would be highly unlikely for us to beat India, who has been undefeated in this whole tournament. Common sense would say that pak has a better chance than us

what did you expect, that’s what slimy characters like Harsha is there for...no doubt we aren’t favourites to go to the semis..but these ‘no chance’ theorists have again and again tried to provide a psychological blow to teams like us before the game even begins...India is probably the best team in the world cup so far..no ones arguing that...but If you closely listen to the adjectives crowned upon the Indian players by their commentators you would think professionals are playing against amateurs...and I have followed harsha over the years and know his slimy character well enough to not take his support for us at face value...i’ll shut up now

Harsha has been providing commentary since 1997. I have always found him to be positive about Bangladesh although at times I have sensed him rooting for the opposition. He is much better than the likes of Manjrekar, The Turban guy, Karthik etc.
We do have a tough chance ahead. Let’s prove him wrong InshahAllah.

I don't know if anyone here is watching the cricbuzz show. I have seen him to talk lot of positive about our players after every match and has always something nice to say. I don't see anything wrong with his comment.

Harsha isn't arrogant. To my understanding, he's always been very kind to us and supporter of our cricket. He's probably being realistic. On paper, we don't have any chance against India or Pakistan. On our day we can beat anybody. But we are not strong enough on paper to beat anybody. That's the difference.
