Algeria versus Belgium, another team which deludes itself into believing that they're on the verge of becoming elite. Sure, the influx of immigrant players has made them a much better side like many other European countries, but they're not on the verge of anything. The Algerians are a technically gifted side with serious pace, but have issues with the last ball in and finishing. Both Zidane and Benzema have Algerian roots. I'll be rooting for Algeria but see a 1-1 draw.

S. Korea versus Russia. The Koreans have strong, technically sound players but lack the tactical cohesion they've shown since 2002. But their defense has been beautifully organized by Coach Hong Myung Bo, one of the finest sweepers to play the game in Asia and beyond. The Russians are incredibly inconsistent and depend on which Russia shows up to play. I see them attacking throughout the match, Koreans resisting with poise, and then scoring on lightening quick counterattack with guys who have no finishing issues. 1-0 Korea with their passionate fans partying all night long everywhere including Dhaka. Drinking, eating and group singing their way to bed 48 hours later.

Belgium's rise to the top has been something special. In such a small country it's amazing how many superstars they have managed to create with the likes of Kompany, Hazard, Lukaku, Benteke, Fellaini, Januazaj etc. Their team is also very young as well so it's just an added bonus. Their next generation also looks bright as there has been a lot of hype about Thorgan Hazard who is apparently better than his older bro Eden.

Wow! The Algerian defense is something to behold. Classic Italian defense. Tremendously organized and executed by physically imposing and technically proficient warriors all on the same page, all finding ways to have your opponent kill time by hovering around a spiral parameter in front of an excellent goalie. Don't be surprised if they defend this 1-0 lead. It's just a matter of time before you can counterattack with wicked pace and bury the chance you get. If not, just turn the ball over and have them kill more time trying to penetrate your defenses, and force them into desperate errors. Brilliant tactics and execution against a superior offense so far.
