Actually now that I am older, the family where one person is working and the other is at home run more efficienthly. Ppl don't have this set up now because most can't earn enough to survive on one income. Or two career focused ppl got married.
Reality is, No one likes working and rather stay home. Staying home is fun these days... many women want that. Being at home is more freeing. Problem becomes when there is control of money . Otherwise stay at home spouse is a really good deal.
