Default Bangladesh Ecstatic Over Humiliating Aussies

(Dhaka Times To Come 1/4/07) There is dancing in the streets of the Bangladesh capital, Dhaka, as news of the latest World Cup scores filter through from the Caribbean.

Minnows of this World Cup they maybe but the Bangladeshi's are crowing. Bangladesh Cricket Board chairman, Mhaka Fulamee, interrupted his participation in the Macarena to give this reporter an exclusive interview.

Leeane Hussey (LH): Considering the result isn't this celebration a bit over the top?

Mhaka Fulamee (MF): No, no, not at all. Cricket is a game of statistics and if you study the statistics you will se we have just humiliated the Australians.

(LH): How so?

(MF): As I have said it is a game of statistics. For example: In all their previous games in this World Cup Australia have batted their full 50 overs. We have restricted the Aussie innings to fewer than 14 overs. They will not be happy with that dent in their record. Also given that they had a mammoth 22 overs at us they were unable to bowl us out. Surely you can see our jubilation is warranted.

(LH) Yes… I guess so. But didn't the weather have a big part to play in those statistics.

(MF): No definitely not. While the game was delayed and shortened it was not interrupted so it was even for both teams. We were able to bat out our 22 overs but Australia could only manage 13.5 of their allotted 22 overs. It is a moment that all Bangladeshis will tell their grandchildren about.

(LH): I think you are fiddling with figures like a politician at election time.

(MF) Don't be insulting. We don't have elections. And anyway consider this. In all their previous games Australia have made over 300 runs. We restricted them to just 106. How can anyone not see that as an emphatic victory?

(LH): Mhaka Fulamee, Thank you for your time.
