It wasn't planned; Mashrafe was asked about his retirement a few days back, he said that he would first talk with the board president if he ever thought of retirement. When Mashrafe was asked about papon's declaration to the media that Mashrafe would be retiring from the t20s after the New Zealand series, he was surprised and said that it could be a misunderstanding from the board president.
There were talks inside BCB about removing Mashrafe from captaincy from the t20s. Mashrafe thought it would be better to retire and that's why he talked with his family and made his declaration. Ideally speaking, he would have loved to declare his retirement in a home series.
